ORIGINAL: Sinimint I loved LA's reply, that summed it up for me. I find 3rd person replies annoying. Actually, many online ways of speaking I find annoying. I have never heard this type of speech in real life, and would probably start giggling if I did and I know Master would just walk away, it annoys him too. Plain English works best for easy reading. As LA said it is like the poster is saying LOOK HOW AWESOMELY SUBMISSIVE I AM TALKING LIKE THIS, ISN'T THIS COOL? [8|] I've heard it in real life, and in fact have caused it to happen. Whatever else may be said about it, it is a useful way to 1) cause a submissive to think about their manners and what they are saying (which, in turn, cuts down on mindless chatter, at least until for awhile); and 2) measure the degree of attention a dom is paying to their sub's activities. While the particular issue of speaking in the third person is largely an arbitrary detail, making such a rule is a context in which to exert control and change ingrained habits. In effect, it's an exercise in mindfulness for the sub, and it's enforcement is an exercise in mindfulness for the dom. Being a proponent of mindfulness, I find 'third speak' a useful tool.
