They should have cut off the funding....

Part of me thinks that too.

But . . .

If one soldier was killed due to the lack of funding the blame would not fall on those not providing the financial support but on the boneheads that would allow our troops to remain without adequate tools.

I honestly think massive blame, accusations of treason, and God knows what else would have been hurled at anyone who voted to cut off funding.

The Democrats were voted in as a statement of the disgust for what is taking place in Iraq....And then when it came time to act with a resounding voice and in some way put an end to this war and support the wishes of the Americans who voted them in....What did they do? ...Nothing!!!!

That's a bit unfair. The Dems passed a funding bill with timetables, and it got vetoed. They don't have the votes to override a veto, so they faced an unpalatable choice: (a) pass a funding bill without a timetable so the president would sign it or (b) cut off funding for the war and be accused of playing politics with our soldiers' lives.

Well, they *COULD HAVE* pointed out that Bush has *already* gotten his annual budget, and if the money's gone it is ALL because of Bush's mismanagement and fiscal irresponsibility.

I say, NOT ONE DIME from the Treasury until next year's budget, and if Bush wants to fully fund the troops, he better be honest and put in the budget ALL the money he's going to need.

Anything less is just encouraging fiscal irresponsibility.

the point of this post was not about her, while I dont agree with what she said or believed in, I know the pain of losing a loved one in war. And she had every right to do what she did. the point of my OP was to point out that once she was broke, burned out, and useless to the DNC they just abandoned her.

I have bad news for you.  Its politics.  And it doesn't really matter what side of the isle they are on, politicians will use you and fuck you over.  Its not the nature of the party, its the nature of the political beast.

Choosing a political party is not a matter of picking what side you are on.  Its a matter of picking what side you're getting cornholed from.  You end up walking funny either way.

Absolutely. I'm fairly sure that there were more votes cast in the last American idol than votes cast for George Bush. That's completely insane. Along with ''Reality TV'', that show acts as a litmus test for me.

Anyways.....It took Sheehan a lot longer than it should have to figure out that while nuanced, both parties along with the politicians who serve them, pretty much mirror the other.

Once you realize that politics is politics and every politician lies, no matter where you stand, you are more wise than the ones firmly behind either party.   There are now so many people in the US and everything is so out of control that neither the dems, republicans, or anyone else, can get a handle on things.  I believe in small and limited government but I wouldn't call myself a republican.  If people are going to get behind something, they should get behind issues instead of just throwing stones between parties.  The public may never know the reasons we went to Iraq.  I don't think we've heard the truth now and I don't think we've known the truth in previous confrontations.  Politics, the political message, public statements, are all a cloak to lay upon the truth, and pacify the public while the enlightened people (that know the truth) try to get things done. You must elect someone you think is going to act morally and then expect them to lie to the public and do the best they can in dark operations the public knows nothing about.  I'm not even sure 911 is what they said it was and the actions of the Worldbank and "big oil" are all rolled up in the mix too.   Citizens like us are puppets that are to be controlled through clever marketing and public relations so we'll pay taxes, listen to and believe lies, and be pacified, so the enlightened can do their best with a secret agenda that they could never share with the public.

No matter how you feel about her politics one can't help but wonder where we would be today if every mother of a fallen combatant had followed her example.

Some mothers lost sons to noble causes, some lost sons to ignoble causes, some lost them ignoble causes poorly thought out, even more poorly led, then there are the poor bastards who died fighting to enhance GWB's ego.  Those mothers seem to be a bit more pissed than other moms.
