Status: offline 		I wanted to thank everyone that responded to this thread... many of the responses indeed cheered me up as I was being a bit hard on myself about something...I hope to get to the place in which some day I embrace the "failures" as things not to resist, but to embrace as being what they are...  until then I guess I will just have to go nutso

This was a wonderful topic julia,
and I will say this.
I used to focus on the numerous mistakes, failures and regrets in my life.
Until, I lost the closest person in the world to me.
Then I had a choice, lose my mind, suicide or just give up.
I choose to keep going, it is not easy by any means.
Since then a lot of things don't phase me like they use to.
I am like F it and go on.
The only thing about going to hell and coming back is you really see life
differently.
I laugh at many things that stress others out, and say is that all ya got?
I look at life and say "Hit me with your best shot, I can take it".
Hang in there.

A former colleague of mine's dad woked for 3M, and he told her that the company almost didn't market Post-It Notes because the revenue projections weren't good enough!

Neither story is told on the 3m site, but I found a couple of sites that state what Sinergy says as being correct, in addition to having heard it on CNN on the anniversary of post it notes...

Status: offline 		     I just finished watching Flags of Our Fathers.  Synchronicity?  The story that gets told is usually the one that sounds better (even when CNN tells it).

     'Fraid I sold that book back to the college bookstore, but there was a full case study of the 3M "intrapeneur" program that led to the Post-it.  And they do make great bookmarks.

i didnt read back through all the posts but may times people lump stumbling blocks in the same catagory as a failure and there is a huge difference.

Having done much design research and dev work, trust me i have had to tear anough stuff down and start over.  

The moral of the story is life is an experience that we learn from.  We try not to err but when we do then we learn and move past it and grow from it.

But often stumbling blocks lead to failure.
Have you ever tried to go on and succeed, when you were at the lowest part
of your life?
Stumbling blocks can keep you down for the rest of your life.
Believe it.
It is really not that easy to separate them, I don't see the HUGE difference.

Only if you do not learn from them 

Otherwise they become building blocks  ;)

I am talking about when everything in your life is crashing down on you,
and you are at your lowest point.
I don't think you have been there yet, one day you will.
That is when you see what you are made of.

yes i have actually, but i learned from it, made adjustments and moved forward.

Its difficult to fail if one never loses the "will" to fight, that is the will to be successful in whatever...  Its when a person throws in the towel throws up their hands and gives up...  that is one more there are others.

Sometimes as in some of my projects which i realize is different than what you said here, i get into it then realize my approach was incorrect and tossed it and took a new approach because it was impossible to have success with my first attempt.

As far as life is concerned like raising kids there is no guide book that tells you all the pitfalls one can get snagged into.   Have to take it as it comes and goes and make adjustments.   Anyone thinking they can go through life without making mistakes is and having bad or extremely difficult periods is not looking at life realisticvally.   Its how we deal with it that counts and earns us the label survivor.

Oh yeh and that reminds me of one of my favorite sayings if i ever get down because i made the same mistake more than once...

i walk up to the mirror and i ask myself this question:

r1 why do you keep hitting yourself over the head with a hammer?  "because it feels so good when i stop".  

Beating one self up does no good, make adjustments and move on will nearly always bring success in anything a person does, unless the adjustments are to take up drinking a 5th every day or soemthing to make things worse.

I just feel that "setbacks" are sitting in the same boat with many failures.
But in the end, being a survivor is what counts!

yes, i define a survivor as getting beyond or above the setbacks.  maybe that is an all inclusive way to broad to broad of a definition, but that is how i came to make that distinction.
