I realize I'm looking for a female dominant, but...any shot in which she looks into the camera...not just at the camera or in its general direction...definately gets my attention. I don't know why, since it's just a picture, but...I guess I have an eye fetish or something. *shrugs* Or maybe it's that piercing look dominants can be so good at...

Ok. As a general rule around here I don't know anything. BUT this I know about LOL I have been Dom shopping so here is my personal favorite:

CMSir32 The one of him with his back to the camera. I know there are lots more out there, and most of the nude ones don't appeal to me so much but that one.. that one does! LOL YUMMMMMMMMBlack and white is a favorite as well, it lends ambiance for sure. I think that one would be damn near perfect if he were to post it in sepia.

Long before I ever joined CM I used to come here and browse. I distinctly remember one profile and picture. I'm pretty sure the nic was LordofDiscipline. He was seated, the chair was leaning back very slightly, he was wearing a dress shirt, pants, one leg crossed over the other, and he was holding a crop as casually as if it were a glass of iced tea while looking straight into the camera... i'd just kind of "sigh" when i looked at his picture. Too bad it's gone now!

When I was looking I liked pics that showed the person doing something. I prefered pics that did not have someone else cut out of them. I did not like webcam pics much. I found portraits taken professionally a little odd to look at (they look so staged!).

I was not really drawn to pics, more repelled by them to be honest. If their house was a mess in the pic.. yuck. If they had only their eyes... creepy. If they wore cowboy clothes... eeewwww (I live in a cowboy area.. big turn off), if they cut someone out of their pic I thought it must be easy for them to crop people out of their lives. I suppose I was picky... I did not like my Daddy's pics at first. There was one with sunglasses and one with a Aussie cowboy hat on, but his emails were so smokin hot with intellect and humor, that I overlooked the photo deficit...lol

I suppose I am a bit unfair as photos only usually hurt the chances of someone scoring with me when I was looking... but I would not respond to people without them at all because I figured they were hiding something... Oy!

I'm not shopping around, but here's what I like and don't like:

Likes
Black and white or sepia toned pictures catch my eyes because they are different and seem more "artsy"
Everyone seems to look better outdoors in natural light
A relaxed pose makes me feel like they aren't taking themselves too seriously,
Smiling is nice, but as long as they aren't trying to look intimidating, I'm fine with not smiling.
Taking the time to pay attention to what is in the background says they pay that close attention to other things
I like a picture of a guy doing something he likes-like grilling, fishing, or playing tennis-tells me more about who he is outside of D/s.

Dislikes:
Shots taken with a digital camera or cell phone in the bathroom mirror( Doesn't he have any friends?)
Any pic with a girl obviously cut out of them (Does she know he's looking?)
Nude shots-rather that be something he didn't share with everyone
Shots with bdsm toys-I'll see those sooner or later
Male "bragging"- expensive sports car, etc,
"company" photos
wedding or prom pictures- just prefer the everyday look
Dungeon shots -Is that ALL he's about?
Shots with no consideration of background- his mother's basement, a filthy room, any place that makes it appear he doesn't have it together

I want something that shows who he IS. If he is a 'relaxed' kinda person, show me a pic of him relaxed, if he is BIG into leather, show me a pic of him in leather, etc.

If the pic looks unnatural for what the words say, then I won't believe it. The pic needs to match the person.

I agree with those suggesting to shoot the photograph in an environment that he (Dom) enjoys. I definitely want to see him clothed. Show the man himself as he appears to the world most days or doing something he enjoys. Someone on CM sent me an email suggesting that I contact a Dom friend of hers. I went to the profile, and it was a simple black and white (BW is powerful, definitive) photograph of a man standing outdoors smiling. "Wow, that looks like a vibrant person," I thought. "And, he seems to be enjoying the outdoors and the moment itself." Then,"I would like to have a conversation with him to find out what he thinks about." So, I sent him an email, and we met and have had some great talks. Some of the atmospheric, moody photographs may catch my eye, but overall, they don't "sell" the person. That's a personal preference, of course. I am totally turned off by CM photographs of men with their toys - boats, airplanes, and cars - unless the photo really does focus on the man himself with the toy in the background. I don't have a problem with dating a Dom who owns and enjoys any of these toys, or who wants to share them with me. I just want to see what he is all about, and the toys can obscure his personality.

I like a photo with a clear face shot, an enigmatic smile, and look in his eyes.

I do not like photos with other people in them, photos where a man looks angry, photos of toys laid out or sunsets.

It is always the eyes and smile that first attracts me and makes me want to know more.

I do not know if I am the only sub that feels this way, but there have been times in the past when I have read a profile with the photo and saw a smiling guy and his profile stated that he was "strict, high expectations" or "I will use you like the cunt that you are bitch whore, and you will like it"... and it was disconcerting to see a photo of a smiling guy out fishing or doing some other casual thing with a very "I am GOD" type profile attached. Or there is nothing on the profile but a list of very sadistic kinks with this smiling face staring back at you.... it can give one the creeps.

Pictures with darker lighting, but still allow the viewer to get an idea of what the person looks like... eyes are a must.

as to the question, i actually prefer to see no photo at all initially. i'd rather find out who a guy is first; then if i'm interested, i'll eventually want to see the exterior, although if i'm truly interested, it won't much matter.

Well since qivver is going to be taking pictures of me for the Domiguy 2007 Days of Summer calender....We are running a little late cause she keeps begging for me to bang her....Unfortunately she has developed an unquenchable thirst for the Domidong...Only so many hours in a day......So here are the photos I suggested that were rejected.....

1) Domiguy as "the thinker"....A slightly pensive look, with hand up to jaw gazing slightly off into the distance...I found the shots to be stimulating but she said they make me look like a homo.

2) Domiguy Standing beside full size "Storm Trooper" from the Star Wars flicks.....I thought it was cool....She said the photo makes me look like a homo.

3) Just a picture of all of my toys....Again I thought it was a nice way to show off my collection.....She said it made me look stupid....Everyone has seen pictures of clamps and floggers and dildos...And yadda, yadda yadda....And she said that it was gross that some were encrusted with some hair, poop and some other sort of crud.

4) Domiguy in my Domimobile....She just laughed and tore up the picture.

5) Domiguy looking like a bad ass smoking a cigarette.....Everyone knows people who smoke are cool.....She said every sub is dying to be fucked by an ashtray.

6) Domiguy wearing black leather....Can you say bad?.....She said I look like shit.

I don't think I like quivver.

I have to say that I'm surprised at most of the responses in this thread. This should be required reading for all Doms on CM. I can see getting my taint waxed for my new profile pic was a total waste of time and money...
