jamesdean -> silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 9:19:49 AM)

I understand the use of the social or courtesy titles Master and slave, both in the intimate context of a lifestyle realtionship and in a scene. However, I find it absolutely silly and immature for a Dom/top to adopt a meaningless royalty title like LORD, DUKE, COUNT or BARON whatever. If it is used as part of an email handle I might find it easier to understand, but when it is expected in a greeting or as salutation, I think a serious reality check long over due. Anyone else find this silly?

ginger21 -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 10:13:58 AM)

I find it pretty funny, but if that's what a person wants to be called I find it only respectful to do so.

Some of the names people come up with...my Master and I are always laughing about Master Blood...

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 10:36:52 AM)

It tends to be assumptive that some random person should call you by a non-earned and non-inherited title.

That being said, automatic terms of honorifics and such are quite common online and accepted by a large portion of the people who talk online.

I don't find it appealing, but I'm sure someone else does.

gothicdraconica -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 10:41:31 AM)

I suppose it's all a matter of personal preference?

MadameDahlia -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 10:42:31 AM)

Some people want everyone to call them Lord/Lady So-and-So. Some people don't. And some people (like myself) use a title only when it is to be used by someone close to them. I use the term Empress when with a very select few. I don't expect anyone else to use the term though.

perverseangelic -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 11:30:15 AM)

Heh. I'm invovled in the SCA, every time I see a title like that I want to ask...."so, where did you reign?"

sub4hire -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 12:04:13 PM)

To each their own the way I see it. However until they earn my respect anything they desire to be called is not going to happen.

darkinshadows -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 12:08:03 PM)

I don't find it any sillier than someone calling themself 'dark angel'.... or 'jamesdean.'
[;)]

If someone insists on a title - then they can do so. But they will not gain the title from me, unless they are a friend and Demon allows it.

Peace and Love

YEA THE REASON WHY IM LORDANDAMSTER IS BECUZ I USED TO BE BARON LOARDANDMASTER AND THE CHICKS THOGUHT THAT WAS STUPID.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 5:32:20 PM)

And I find it silly and rude to make a whole post with just the point of attacking people's personal preferances for titles.

That's interesting. I took Lady because I found it pretty. Like Ladybug. I also found it less imposing then Mistress or Goddess - which is fine if that if you want to be imposing ;)

But I have never bit off the head of anyone who addressed me as Angelika. In fact, I'm more likely to get upset if someone calls me Mistress and they are not my submissive.

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 6:41:13 PM)

I use Goddess to indicate My style of Domination. If anyone doesn't like it, they don't have to write to Me. I don't expect to be called Goddess in ftf situations. But I do expect reasonable courtesy unless I prove somehow that I don't deserve it.
I instruct boys to address Me as Goddess DustyGold or Ma'm if they wish to write a letter to Me. I consider it akin to referring to Me as Ms. DustyGold or something similar. I don't get in a huff if they use some other term of respectful addres. Even "Dear DustyGold". But when a letter begins with "Hi Dusty, I want to be your slave", I have to wonder how slave-like they will be if they feel it appropriate to begin with such a casual form of address.
By the same token, until I have written to someone a few times, as I do on the other side here, the same rule applies to Myself. I address the Domina or Male Dominant the way they identify in a screen name. Hence, Lady so & so, or Ms. So & so, or Sir so & so. It doesn't bother Me. Same thing goes for any submissive or slave. I extend the same courtesy to them. After an initial exchange, I am Dusty and they are whatever name they prefer.
I consider it simple courtesy.
I am not sure why it bothers so many others. Pompousness comes from the attitude you project. If you come across as a "know it all, bow down to Me type" then I am amused and I ignore it. But I see many on here who do not use a title of any sort, and they come across as very arrogant. So who's to say. The name doesn't necessarily make the person.
I don't think I am being pompous at all.
But I am sure there are others who might think I am. And if they do, there isn't a whole lot I can do about it.
Why sweat the small stuff?

SirKenin -> RE: silly royalty titles (5/24/2005 9:22:47 PM)

Heh. I never really thought about it until someone whined about it in a thread. Sir Kenin is actually an email address that I use. I was looking for something unique to use for an email service where My usual one was taken. After a little bit of thought, it dawned on Me to use Sir to indicate that I am a Dom and Kenin because Kenin was a rank of Japanese Samurai warrior. They were the Administrators, or "vassals". I just found that it fit perfectly with My nature and who I am. It is unique to Me, I now use it for all My logins and I love it. I have not had a complaint yet. It also makes for a great discrete calling card on vanilla message boards.

I do not mind if A/anyone calls Me Sir Kenin or simply Sir or Kenin. People use all three and it does not bither Me a bot.

Funny that someone should start such a pointless thread. If the title has meaning other than "I am better than Y/you" then so what? Whatever works for them.
