After reading all the concern over mess, this is just a quick note that really it's just not such a big problem.
My partner has fucked me many, many times with her strapon. It's a regular practice, going on 3+ years, maybe 4 since she bought it. Years ago she required practice wearing a set of increasingly large plugs for a few hours a day, which really helped me be able to take a larger size. Most of our friends are a bit shocked when they see her fuck me at play parties with her large purple dildo. It really is a pretty large dildo, though not quite as wide as her fist (we've done fisting quite a bit too, though not so much lately).
Usually she asks me to enema ahead of time, but not always. Early on I was concerned about potential mess, but she's really ok with it.... much moreso than I am. Even so, it's very rarely an issue without an enema. Even the worst mess we've had hasn't been a really big deal. There's pretty much never any mess at all if I've "cleaned out" ahead of time (typically she'll ask me to "clean out" in the morning, planning to poke me in the evening after work). She always uses 2 towels, in exactly the same way (almost a ritual), one on the bed and another on the floor to catch lube that drips. She always drops the harness with dildo still in onto the towel on the floor and later I wash it. So if there's any mess, I will mostly certainly know!
I used to do multiple enemas, but that's just not necessary, and it's pretty stressful on my body. Also not very important is how long before to do it beforehand. One hour or several hours seems to make absolutely no difference. I'd suggest at least an hour or two in advance, to allow time for your body to settle and recover. We have one of those inexpensive water bottle kits with enema option, and it works just fine. It holds 2 quarts. Usually I take in about 1 quart, but over the years I've tried using less or more. Even using what doesn't seem like much of the water, maybe only a quarter of the bag, still works just fine. Sitting on the toilet longer does help to expel it all, so I usually take some reading material with me into the bathroom.
Also, I can really confirm that anal penetration feels completely different. I rarely get erect, but still really is a LOT of fun.
If you try it, and especially if you enema, the mess factor really isn't what you might fear, as I did initially.
