It sounds like a pretty good deal she got to me too. As I understand it she was offered parole for the first offence, and this sentence was passed for breach of that parole by way of a second offence in rapid succession.

Its not exactly like she has no one to drive her about after all. Its not like some ordinary every day person who might have committed the second offence out of what they regarded as necessity. Its about a silly girl (she doesnt qualify for woman and certainly not lady) who treats the world like a game, for that it what it is to her.

The best thing for young Paris would be a five year stint doing a real job, living in an ordinary apartment and without all the benefits to which she is accustomed. A dose of real life, in other words.

Agreed.  I know a guy who has gotten caught for drunk driving several times and done time for it, but he's never driven drunk while on probation for drunk driving.

He just got done with a 20 day stint in jail for driving on a suspended license (he lost his license for drunk driving, then got caught driving while sober to Jack in the Box).  Driving drunk is bad.  Driving drunk while on probation for drunk driving should be an automatic 6 month sentence.

...thing is, now that Paris has got away with it, how many clever, unscrupulous lawyers will use the same reason to spring their (potentially) even more dangerous clients from chokey?

They won't.  This was a decision that rested solely with one man: Sheriff Lee Baca.  He's the one to be blamed here.  TMZ is reporting that LA District Attorney Rocky Delgadillo is absolutley livid at Baca for releasing celebs without serving any time.

No, because it's an executive and not a judicial matter.  The Sheriff has broad latitude in determining how the sentence is to be carried out.  It's similar to a request for a pardon from the Governor: it's entirely at the executive's discretion.

It's not like paris killed anyone, or even hurt anyone,  I am NOT a paris hilton fan but I do believe they really came down to hard on her!

i believe that you forgot to add "yet" to the statement about her not killing or hurting anyone...there's a reason that the laws against driving while intoxicated carry some fairly stiff penalties...to get people to think about how serious an offense it really is...when you have friends & relatives who have been killed & maimed by people who have been driving under the influence, or when you look at the statistics even, your tolerance for such behavior might decrease a bit...at least i would hope so.......

They are now reporting that the medical condition that made it impossible for her to stay in jail was.......a rash.

Must be the same rash she gets when she gets too close to poor people. I guess they didn't clean the cell well enough after the last gal left.

I used to think Paris Hilton was just a sad, shallow, self-centered person, but really I guess you can't blame her for acting like she's above everyone and everything. How do people expect a person to act when everyone else treats them like rules don't apply to them?

It would have been rather interesting if she became so distraught over her rash that she hung herself in her cell.

I don't care about Paris Hilton either way, though I reiterate: people would benefit from not hating her so much to concentrate on more worthy causes.

However, I was well amused when I read the following (my highlights):

Now, that's one of the most presposterous cases of hubris I have seen in a long, long time! It's even bigger than domiguy's shlong.

The ONLY thing Paris has in her head is AIR. Thats it, nothing else.

I say let her have a breakdown, maybe she won't drive drunk again or drive at all. California keeps talking about tougher sentensing for DUIs, hell, I have signed EVERY petition in recent years to have someone who drives drunk have their license pulled.

Yes, the girth of her hubris is breathtaking but her stay seemed to lack the length.

Give her time.  Since they've just rewarded her for her behavior and she now knows she's above the law.

I think our fine County Sheriff just found the third rail in local politics.  Maybe some of his Hollywood buddies will get him a job at the studio gate after the next election.  Makes me glad I'm in LA County and will get to help vote his ass out.

Breaking news: LA City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo's office is on the case!  He even suggested in his motion to show cause that Sheriff Baca be held in contempt of court!  Wouldn't it be FANTASTIC to see the high Sheriff tossed in jail?  It'll never happen, but wow, if it did...score one for The People!

Hearing could send Hilton back to jail
‘What transpired here is outrageous,’ says county Supervisor Don Knabe

Hours after Paris Hilton was sent home under house arrest Thursday, the judge who put her in jail for violating her reckless-driving probation ordered her into court to determine whether she should be put back behind bars.

Hilton must report to court at 9 a.m. Friday, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told The Associated Press.

...

City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo complained that he learned of her release the same way as almost everyone else — through news reports.

“It is the city attorney’s position that the decision on whether or not Ms. Hilton should be released early and placed on electronic monitoring should be made by Judge Sauer and not the Sheriff’s Department,” said Jeffrey Isaacs of the city attorney’s office.

Sauer himself had expressed his unhappiness with Hilton’s release before Delgadillo asked him to return her to court. When he sentenced Hilton to jail last month, he ruled specifically that she could not serve her sentence at home under electronic monitoring.

Parachini said Sauer reminded the Sheriff’s Department of that when he learned Hilton was about to be released.

“He reiterated the terms of his sentencing order. He did not agree to the terms of release that the sheriff proposed,” Parachini told the AP before Delgadillo asked that Hilton be returned to court.

I say send her back to the cell with a tube of 1% Hydrocortisone and some Benadryl.
