ORIGINAL: windchymes No, I didn't mean HAD your urine analyzed. I mean PERFORM urinalysis in a clinical laboratory setting. I mean know the theory, practices, policies and procedures involved. No, I haven't had cause to do that yet. I leave urinalysis to the doctor and the lab. I only know as much as my friends have told me from their experiences working in the lab. quote:
I just wish people would leave medical advice to the professionals. Hence encouraging people to have blood work done to monitor renal function, to talk it over with their GP, etc. Mostly, I just pass on advice and so forth. It would, of course, be ideal for people to go to a KAP, get everything they need to know from there, and not even ask the questions in the first place on CM, but such isn't the case. Hence various people give their advice where they feel they can contribute, and I give mine. The only area where I can do the same things my GP can (and more, as attested by the people who instructed the GPs in my region in the first place) is with regard to the use of psychotropic medication in the management of certain kinds of mental illness, and some adjunct topics to the extent they are relevant (cardiovascular system, pharmacokinetics, etc.). The absorption, metabolism and excretion of drugs falls under that heading, and I've assisted GPs with that. I'm not about to claim to be a professional, though, and I've always included a strong emphasis on the need to run my advice by someone who is a professional, and knows the medical history involved, whenever someone asks me for specific advice (whether in PMs, in real life, or whatever). That's as much as I can do; anyone taking medical advice over the Internet without running it by their caregiver(s) will do equally stupid things in the absence of well-intentioned advice anyway. If you feel I haven't stressed the point enough, though, please let me know, and I'll try to improve. Ditto and will add: If you don't want to find out what we "non professional medical people" think then don't ask questions on public forums go find a doctor to pay and ask your questions there. I am astounded by some of the medical questions asked to a bunch of hidden faced online people in the health and safety section. Often I glance over these, have what would be good advice based on medical knowledge but don't post because my nursing degree doesn't allow me to diagnos or prescribe. Even if it did...there is no way in hell I am going to assume that responsiblity in an online forum of faceless, nameless people who could be telling me anything and I them, for that matter. I offer up links, advice, and general knowlege. I at least have 12 years of nursing behind me unlike the others who say things like "oh yeah...my xyz had that same problem....just double your dose"
