The Japanese cars do seem to be excellent. A friend had a little Subaru, and that thing went through hell and high water and lasted for years, with little work done on it.

One of the biggest hassles I ran into today (and it was NOT a happy day  ) was how many cars simply aren't big enough for me.  The fashion is towards consoles that flow from the dashboard into the center console, leaving no room for my right leg.

I looked at the Mazda 3.  I got in and right back out again.  There isn't room for my knee between the steering wheel and console.  I also did the in and right back out on a Toyota Matrix, Dodge Caliber and even the latest incarnation of my current car has the parking brake lever at an angle that jabs my leg.  The Prius was quite roomy (and peppier than the other econo-boxes) but I just can't see dropping $25,000 for it.  I'll go try on a few Hondas, but they are more than I want to spend.  The Yaris...  I want a little bit more car than that.

Oh.  I also managed to get very pissed off at the sales tactics of a used dealership.

Back to my posts from last night or whenever about hybrids and other alternative vehicles. Everyone should check out th GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid. It is the same price as my truck but you may get a tax break. There is a Hybrid Sierra at work that really doesn't do too bad until you get off the freeway and get onto the 2 lane roads and off road. That is where the chipped out duramax shines again.

And the comment about my mileage dropping so much, it is only that bad when I pull a trailer with a Cat Backhoe on it. I would pull it anywhere up hill but the brakes on it are not quite big enough to stop a trailer with that large of a load.

When it won't go.

I make sure that my mechanics and the autopart store are completely aware of my stance and I tell them, precisely:

I am the bimbo from hell, I put my key in the ignition and I hit the gas.... that is it.

There are a lot of things that I get and this ain't one of 'em.  I've learned too, that when I was starting to get it.. the whole thing changed and NOW, I have to worry about a computer thing.

Not to mention the fact that in winter, taxis run constantly, in order to keep the passenger compartment warm for driver & fares. It's not unusual for a taxi to drive/idle 24/7. That's gotta say something.

The same thing is true for the Ford Crown Victoria's/ Mercury Grande Marquis. (same drive train.)
They use them for police cars and beat the piss out of them!
Many depts keep them for 3-5 years and will put 150k miles on them and idle the engines constantly.
Very "tough" cars.

My car is a good shape and has been paid off for 2 years.
According to Suze Orman and many other financial advisors, it is best to pay
cash for a car if you can afford it.
My plan is to put down at least half of whatever my next car will cost me.

LadyIce, nice to have a vehicle paid for isn't it?
I try to do that as quick as I can.
It saves a lot of interest money.

Katy, I checked for a Honda for you but they have none locally.  :>(

Thank you.  : )
I'm really going to try not to purchase a car until I absolutely have to.
