Hello everyone. I was just curious what everyone's opinion is regarding criminal history. Is it a partner's right to know? Is it a Master's or Mistress' right to know? A boyfriend's, girlfriend's? Husband's, wife's? Friend's? Where is the line in which it isn't the buisness of another? Isn't it a safety issue? If a Master or Mistress owns a slave, shouldn't this mean they own all of them, their history as well as future?

I created this profile to ask some questions, such as this. Thanks for all opinions!

i think it is his/her right to know if the criminal history contains a dangerous crime... but if it is just a minor thing, so it is ok...

I would say at the very least, a person has a right to know about any felonies, whether they are dangerous or not. As I mentiond, in my own case I could lose my job over dating someone with a felony record, regardless of the nature of the crime.

I am amused that you even ask this question.

So am I.

Please share why there's such amusement.  Are you assuming that the answer is simply "yes" and everyone is in total agreement?  I thought I had a slightly different take on it due to my own "history."  I'd love to hear yours and why the simple asking of this question is so amusing[:)]........slave luci

If their criminal record involves children, rape, or murder.

I would expect someone to be honest if asked, but I wouldn't worry if they didn't mention they got busted for drinking when they were 19 and now they are 25. If you are that worried about it, look it up. Criminal records and court transcripts are public.

It's obvious there are different views on this.  Bottom line is.. the only rights you are going to recieve... are the rights one gives you on the information.... unless you do you own background checks and then you'll see where the trust is.

You're going to trust them to tell the truth.... they're going to trust you to take their word for it. Ok.. so who is going to be the first one to start back ground checks to see who lied first?.... So much for trust...

Edited for a after thought........

when you going to ask for this information.. or check it out..BEFORE you meet or fuck them for the first time... or after you decided in your heart and mind you want to be together...and then find the lie...and mistrust... to only be hurt by it all?

girrrl! You made me edit! IMHO your first thought was best.

I do my background checks ahead of time (prior to first date.) I ask them "What criminal history do you have?" and then "Do you have any objection to me having a friend with access to such records run a criminal background on you?" I will not do it without their consent. If they refuse to consent, I simply explain to them that I am no longer interested in them as a potential date. If they have nothing to hide, they will usually consent.

And for the record, yes, I know that you are not technically supposed to use law enforcement powers to look up info for private use...but I don't feel too bad about asking someone to do it. My job is on the line and so it is a priority to me.

All I can say on this is......... ya do what you gotta do. And If you are one who does...and have the equipment... personnel... etc... go with it.. specially when you have so much riding on the line... Kuddos to you....and no that's not being sarcastic... that's a ^5 to ya...

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Is it a partner's right to know criminal history? (6/17/2007 5:28:44 PM)

I think it kinda falls under the "informed" part of "informed consent."

But that's all up to the person.  I know plenty of people who agree to become property of another without even meeting their kids or parents.  They feel they are informed enough.
