Not sure who listens to Stern enough to know about his relationship with his fiance, but this week they had Dr. Keith Ablow come in for a little pre-marital counseling. It's surprising (well, maybe not) how submissive Beth is to Howard, pretty much putting all of her needs aside and constantly making sure he is happy, often in a stealth manner so that he is not even aware she's doing it (those familiar enough with Howard would realize what a task this must be considering how miserable he is, with his OCD, etc.) I didn't get to hear the entire segment, but I got a sense Dr. Keith was moving in a direction to indicate this "people pleasing" obsession she had could really cause some harm later in the relationship because she's not standing up for herself, making him meet her half way, etc. While I don't think they have any kind of a BDSM relationship at all, it's still interesting to hear a therapy-guy give reasons why one person having all the control in a relationship was not entirely healthy, especially with another person who is a huge people-pleaser. Perhaps someone who heard the entire thing could shed some more light on it? Akasha

Didn't hear it, but it's true that MOST relationships in which one person always puts others first is a bad set up for healthy balanced relationships. Even in Ds or Ms types, subs and slaves can get into really bad situations where they end up resentful or overworked and empty because they simply want "to submit" rather than choosing a GOOD relationship that will work for everyone- that requires them to say no to a lot of people, it requires them to put themselves first in the searching process and set clear boundaries. Something "people pleaser" types generally have a lot of problems with.

Fiance? Wasn't Stern with the dead blond chick? I know I don't pay any true sense of attention to this dude, but wasn't Anna Nicole buried a short while ago. Hell they spent months clouding my radio waves with custody stuff over a baby.....? Didn't they? Do I have the wrong Stern here? Bull

Well..I have trouble understanding why anyone would want to be pleasing to Howard Stern. From what I have seen of him he is all ego and could care less about anyone.

Akasha I'm a Howard Stern fan and listen to the show on Sirius and it was interesting to listen to Dr. Abelow, but I think that Howard Stern is pretty much a control freak in general. I'm not sure I'd consider him a dom though, because he definitely seems to want to give to her and has been very flexible about changing what he said he'd never do (he said he'd never live with someone then he said he'd never get married). I think there are just some things that he's really anal retentive about, and they both want to make the relationship work and he's got more money and power than her in the relationship so of course she wants to keep him happy. C~

A relationship can work fine when one person does most of the caregiving, so long as the other one acknowledges it and makes them feel valued for doing it. I can't see him valuing anyone but himself, really. As for her - I hope she's in it for the money, and not for love. She's got a better chance of getting the money.

BINGO! Yes howard Stern is one of us friends. Read his book, and see what he says is his favorite movie... it is a BDSM movie! However, he is the perfect totally perfect example that money does not make a person happy. Edited to include, but it can help a lot.

They have been together for 7 years. That's an awfully long time to be in a "mode". There is true love there. Supposedly off the air he is an amazing guy. He has lots of issues (as do we all) and he is willing do examine them and modify his behavior for Beth. There were things that Dr Keith brought out in both of them and examined and they were both very positive and open about the whole process. I didn't hear the whole thing yet but it's on On Demand and hopefully I'll hear the rest this week. For you guys who are Howard bashers, I think you should spend some time listening to the show before you judge.

They have been together for several years. So, I don't think she's in it for the "money." There seems to be a genuine affection between them. However, who wouldn't enjoy the lifestyle that type of money affords? I know that I certainly would! I have heard that the way he acts is a "radio persona"...not the way he is in "real life." While she may make "decent" money modeling...she's no SUPERMODEL, and I believe that Howard got $200 million for this radio deal with Sirius. I'm sure there will be some sort of pre-nup in place before a marriage occurs. Be well, M. Diva P.S. For those of you interested, the lawyer involved with Anna Nicole goes my Howard K. Stern....not just Howard Stern...however, they are both Jewish...and I can understand the confusion!
