This question has nothing to do with animal play.  I was wondering how Dommes feel about different types of men (and/or women) for submissives.  Not to be sexist, but the reason I was more interested in the male-sub aspect was because there is more societal pressure for men to be stronger than women, although that's certainly shrinking by the second.

I see two common occurences.  The Domme with her submissive, pathetic, beaten man, proud to serve under his mighty ruler.  And the Domme with her submissive powerful man, proud to serve under his mighty ruler, but dangerously strong to all who would oppose her.

These two submissives are personifications of the weak daschund, who will do as trained, but hides behind it's owner when thunder claps.  And of the german shepherd who will do as trained, but barks ruthlessly at the ceiling when thunder claps.

How can I better paint my picture... Imagine a female Pharaoh with the two biggest Egyptians you've ever seen.  They could easy rip a man into shreds, but have undying devotion to Pharaoh.  Now imagine the Pharoah with two pathetic (Only in the eyes of the Pharaoh), underfed Hebrew slaves.  (Ignore the whole Moses deal, for arguement sakes, they don't plan to run away.)  The Pharaoh could probably overpower them physically, whereas she stood no chance against her two human Anubis.

I expect to see a lot of "Depends on the Domme." But I wanted to get an informal statistical understanding.

Which do you prefer? Does it matter at all? Have you had both? Has the thought ever occured to you before?

I prefer the German Shephard.  I don't like timid yappy dogs.  They may be fun to play with occasionally, as a football, but I can't really play the way I want nor are they as useful.

My opinions work fine for both type of dog I prefer as well as slave.

None of My boys have been weak in any sense of the word.  They have all had strength.  I have always preferred the type that were submissive to Me, but not necessarily submissive to the world.

A rottweiler is best. Something about all that raw power and aggression under control.....?

heh. I would prefer a Husky myself. Though in a pinch I would make do with a German Shepard.

Suprisingly, I've found quite a few. They tend to be a little younger though.

Goodness, men are a little more complex than your two choices, dear boy.

I appreciate all your responses... And I do agree that men are SLIGHTLY more complex.  OrangeJulius really hit on what I meant with "Suprisingly, I've found quite a few. They tend to be a little younger though."  That's really what I was talking about.  I see the more experienced Dommes prefer real men to have under their control compared to someone who is "less than them in every sense of the word."

i was thinking the same....my mama's dog shorty, the mini doxie, is the king of the house.  barney, the gran pyranese, is a coward.

in my house, my blonde german shepherd climbs into my lap when it thunders.

kitten, who knows dogs as well as people break generalizations....

I believe your first and critical error is to divide submissive men into two stereotypes, one a wonderful one which is a powerful male, and the other, in your words, "pathetic". Submissive males fall into a lot more categories than this, and I would never in a million years consider myself a pathetic submissive male. Nor am I a "beaten man", although I have been beaten, but that's not the point your post is trying to connect to.

An example, I'm not someone who snaps at anyone who comes close to my dominant, but at the same time, if she needs someone to stand up for her or, hopefully never, to come to her defense, I'm more than willing, AND capable of doing just that. But if you had to force me into one of those bad stereotypes you bring up, I'd probably belong in the first, and I think that does a complete disservice to pretty much all sincere submissives.

A question, if you will, julius.  Would you be referring to the age of the submissive or the Dominant?

How about a golden retriever?

Lovely dogs...Friendly, loyal, affectionate, good with kids! They're fairly easy to train, and can be taken out and about in the country or the city.

But...if somebody should do something to anger them, to threaten their owners, their "pack"...Gods help you. They can be viscious, tearing things. I've been bitten by a few, I should know.

One does not need to wantonly display strength to posess it. Speak softly and carry a big stick...So that they won't expect it when you come from behind and puncture their lungs.

I could write books and books on how I meant to ask this question, but the truth is that I got lazy.  I know that people run the gamit (as well as dogs) and that there are exceptions to every rule.  Perhaps if I ramble more, my mind will be displayed more accurately.

A few clarifications that may make my question more tolerable...

The  mention of the two sorts of dogs was related to their stereotypical nature.  It had nothing to do with how they really act.

By pathetic, I meant it as an extension of being less than someone else.

I'm not sure, but it seems like I was asking Dommes more about the extremes, instead of the middle-grounds.  Most people fall within the extremes, so most people were excluded from mention in the metaphor.

I wanted to ask which Dommes preffered "Strong" submissives, but what does that say for the other?  That they are weak because they didn't require training, or aren't physically powerful?  That's certainly not what I meant.  This is a very tricky question to pose without sounding like an ignorant douchebag.  I gave it a shot, try to find the merit in approaching such a delicate topic.  I apologize to you, littlesarbonn, I didn't mean to sound harsh in my description, but I also didn't want to see "tldr."

Perhaps you, the reader, can lend me your eloquent nature.  If you can see into my rather twisted mind and grasp what I'm trying to ask, please help me.  Does anyone get what I'm trying desperately to ask?  I don't want anyone offended, and I'm not telling anyone what I like, or what I think is 'right.'

I know I've had a sexist upbringing, but it's not only my small world where men are told to be strong, competent, and honorable.  I have seen Dommes that prefer their male counterpart to be far beneath them, in every way.  I've seen Dommes that desire their submissives to be superior than they are in certain fields, this way they can control a person who is better than they are at something, making them better than they were alone, by proxy.

My mind is pulsing trying to get the words out correctly, but that's the way it is with the un-meditated mind.  I am not saying a submissive male is incompetent, or that they are weak, or pathetic, or less valuable than their Domme.

Most male submissives would say that they put their Domme first, that's just the nature of being submissive.  I'm talking about the "I'm not worthy!" sort of submissive, and how Dommes feel about it.

Does this sound better: "Do you prefer your submissive to maintain an 'I'm not worthy!' attitude or an attitude that is respectful, but powerful?"

I'm frustrated that I can't voice my question as clearly as it flows in my mind.  It seems like there is a Heisenberg uncertainty principle at work.  The more I grasp what I want to ask, the less I can voice said thoughts.  If you'd like to answer, please just take my words with a warning.  I am not stupid, and my understanding of people is not as minimalist as I've presented it to be. I'm having a very hard time getting my thoughts out today.  Sigh.

If Julius's experiences are anything like mine, then it would be the dominant.  Of course, I'm not answering for Julius. =P

That pretty much covers it.

In human terms, the Hugh Jackman character from Kate & Leopold is the sort I would love to meet. Strong, capable, ready, willing and able to serve and protect his mistress, yet willing to defer to her expertise and control unless it goes against a hard limit.

I like what aidan said about a golden retriever. My houseboy, who I adore, is more like a border collie. Small, unassuming yet pretty to look at, and highly intelligent. Incredibly useful, and an excellent companion.

When looking for my two slaves, I seek something more like a rottweiler. I enjoy imposing, Dominant-seeming men who are reduced to puddles of joy when I turn my attention to them. There is no rush like it for me. I require my slaves to be strong, intelligent, and with a high level of moral fortitude. Perhaps less a Rottweiler, and more of a Newfoundlander? *shrug*
