I have a pretty good idea of what I want in each kind of relationship I enjoy. Once I ascertain that a person would be compatible with me, I tailor the general role-template to the person's individual skills and desires. I do prefer to articulate rules and obligations for relationships--d/s and otherwise. It tends to reduce hurt feelings. So, in other words, contracts, covenants, whatever, get articulated, but the agreements that are articulated are revised to fit the particular person with whom I am entering a relationship. And yes, they typically change over time, usually because we've reached Goal 1 and need to move on to something else. Incidentally, even if the wonderful slave girlie falls out of the sky and submits in a day or two, that doesn't mean that I've dominated in a day or two. I'm somewhat a pain-in-the-neck sort bent on getting my way (dare we say, a dominant personality?), and so I like my relationships to proceed at my pace.
