quote:
Pain is very much an ego issue for me, the incredible satisfaction that i receive for going beyond the point that i thought i could surpass is a rush of exhilaration and joy that i can easily become positively addicted to. But, the end point is "exhilaration and joy." So, you get something positive out of it. I would say that falls nicely under the masochist lable. I think of masochism in terms of a pleasure/pain conversion process. I can convert a painful stimulus into a pleasurable experience via a variety of techniques I've learned, though sometimes this happens over a period of hours or days. Things I hated in the moment, make for happy memories. Its simplistic to say I get pleasure from pain, though it works for everyday purposes. But, as soon as I start to think about it a bit, I have to say, nah, thats not quite right. ed: I didn't realize this was an old thread when I posted.
