I lived in a town where there was a Starbucks directly across from another Starbucks, which were 1/4 block from a 7-11.
It was quite common to see Starbucks employees buying regular coffee at 7-11.

Lets see.... I've seen Wendy's employees buying from McD's, Burger King and Pizza Hut while on a work shift break. And vice versa. But there's nothing like seeing a pizza get delivered to the backdoor at Wendy's. (lol)
I've seen employees from major retailers/grocery chains shopping in Walmart and vice versa.
I've seen Taco Bell workers in KFC.

And I have yet to see any insults/commentary that were done with Malice. It was usually between friends who happened to work for the rival group.

lmao....starbucks?  waste of time and money, overrated coffee...and employees.   Take me to a truck stop diner for a good cup of coffee, and a waitress who knows something more than grunge music and dungeons and dragons.

I don't care for regular coffee.  I need it syruped up in order to enjoy it.  I usually make amaretto lattes at home.  But I do venture into Starbucks sometimes for this:

When i was a child i yearned for Starbucks. When i grew up i found my local coffee house. The difference ? The local coffee house will fix it to my specifications with a smile and they have taken the time to get to know me. Wait i know what that is.....Customer service, something that is strongly lacking in the big boys ( Starbucks). I'm spoiled now and when i go to Starbucks with friends ( because they don't know any better ) i have to take what they give me, not what i would enjoy. A huge difference and for the money i just don't do it if i have a choice. The small town guys win.

Yep, I have a coffee shop in my small town.  But when they refused to fix my coffee five mintues before their posted closing time I stopped giving them my money.  As in...the sign said "open", the door was unlocked, but "sorry, we're closed."  I said, "no problem, I'll go to the gas station up the street."  It tends not to be pleasant when people piss me off.

popeye, have you been asked to do a consumer's survey on corporate loyalty or something? Did you just pass your degree in Marketing :-)  ?

Kittensol, no, just having some fun.
Starbucks employees are known to be snooty and a high percentage of them have college degrees compared to other employees in the "Hospitality" business.
I was just wondering what they thought of other people in that business in a comical way.
I'm a comedian but only intelligent people understand my sense of humor.

I got down to this post and was disappointed that you felt the need to explain yourself.  I got from the get go that it was lighthearted.  This just goes to show you how the written word can be misinterpreted simply because it lacks emotion.

Funny thing is.. there is a caste system in retail n service industries that I have seen.

Much as I'm loathe to admit it, you've hit the nail on the head. When a server goes from say.. a Denny's to a Red Lobster, they're seen as moving up. When the opposite happens, they're labeled as "Red Lobster's rejects" (I use these two since I've worked at both.

But alot of it is internal competition within the industry itself. You certainly want to think of yourself as working in the best establishment. You also have to realize that TONS of students work in these industries. Most of my coworkers, myself included, are going to school. A nice restaurant has flexible hours, not to mention some pretty f**king nice money to be had. So you work part time, pulling in what someone working fourty hours a week at $12 an hour is making.

That's nothing to poke fun at, IMHO. Good sense in choosing a job.

Gwen

Sure, some people contribute to the great corporate takeover of the world by giving away their cash to both Starbucks and Wal Mart (I repeat: I boycott both). Some people go to one but not the other (popeye, who is scared of Starbucks' employees because he feels - erroneously - that they're smarter than him). And some, like moi, do neither.

And some are lucky enough to live in countries that don't have those capitalistic-exploitative-grab-the-money-and-run-bastards doing commerce on their soil!

Maybe the town I live in really does exist in a bubble (it's certainly been suggested a number of times), but I've never had nor seen a problem getting a custom order from any of the gazillion Starbucks here.  They might look confused for a moment if they're new, they might end up screwing it up, but they always try...and will in fact toss it and try again if they fail.  This is at more than one location and multiple times with multiple menu choices over a period of several years.  *shrug*

egads, coming back to read the humor and find this was serious.......

this is another example of the seeing the written word through my own filters.....i wonder if popeye had said this, in person, would his tongue have been in cheek, or his veins bulging out from the raw emotion he felt on this subject........

sighs

sometimes i think too much and sometimes not enough i feel.....as i am still thinking this entire thing was started to bring out some humor in a completely silly comparison.....

I agree for the most part, but it is possible to look down on someone a bit without putting them down.

Oh really?

Yes, really.

At 5 foot 8, I don't (can't !) look down on too many ......
