 What are some of the misconceptions that you have heard about TPE from those who are not? What are some of the Legends or Stories of extreme control or play you have heard? (Please say if it is True of False as well)

Status: offline 		Well this was one of the first real horror stories I ever heard about bdsm, I think it qualifies as a form of TPE.

Most common: It doesn't exist.
Most annoying: It doesn't exist.
Most pathetic: It couldn't work.

One thing I find about TPE that isn't understood is rules. People feel like, to have TPE, you have to micromanage 24/7, every waking second of the sub's life. They completely neglect that you can give general rules and instructions for dealing with individual instances. If you're well-spoken and intelligent enough, it's rather simplistic to give general guidelines that allow a slave to refer to, and follow, orders any time. Such an obvious point seems to elude myth-speakers, to my continual frustration.

Status: offline 		that being a slave in a TPE means that you get to have no desires or needs filled beyond the basic ones and that your whole life as a slave will be about sacrifice and learning to live without all the things you really love and enjoy or you're just not a true slave.

also, that true slaves are not happiness and light all the time because being a slave is all about hard work and sacrifice.

I don't believe this to be true.

Labels are such weak things that rarely define anything, they just give you an idea of what is really going on... but they are the best thing going for quick communication and shallow knowledge of a thing

The biggest one misconception I have heard is that some people deny that it can and does exist. It also is not permenant (I am an example of that)
Legend of extreme control and according to my former Master it is true was that there was a slave who had a Master who kept her in a basement chained until he would arrive home for work. One day he was hit by a car and died. A friend of his who knew about her broke into the house and released her...
Another one that Master told me about was meeting a slave who had been trained in Europe in a school where they were taught and conditioned to have no decision making whatsoever. Sounded impossible but Master was there when she came to the USA to be rescued by a Mistress he knew. When she got off the plane (this was before security and 9/11) the Mistress took her to McDonalds to get something into her and asked her what she wanted, the girl started to cry and get very upset because, she said, choices were not her right..(true)

When you talk about extreme things? Well I am a living example that they can exist and that some people need those things.

There is only one true answer to what something is ... yours.  Honesty and Communication is key to understanding which part of which desires two people share. 

In this great big world, it is difficult to find someone who shares your same desires, fetishes, limits and dreams.  Like in a vanilla relationship you have to hold on to the part of you that is you (even slaves have this) and work with not against the partner you are with ...

Why do I sound so preachy when I type things like this?

it is all well and good that the micro isnt a neccisty, but for some it is a preference. it is a perference on both sides. ever wonder why that is such a nasty pill swallow?

Status: offline 		I think M/s and TPE have different meanings for each relationship, There is a connotation  that it means more extreme D/s than most relationships but the specifics are different for each relationship(s). The myth to me is that there is a definition that applies to everyone who sees themselves as in a TPE relationship....

Some other myths that are laughable are that it can't exist, means slaves live naked in chains, or that slaves in TPE are nothing but robots. Of course the myth that we Dom/mes who pursue TPE are crazy, assholes and megalomaniacs is true without doubt.

Status: offline 		The one story I heard from a slave practicing TPE was that: "A slave may never under any circumstances leave her Master or ask for release. If she does leave, a Master has the right to track her down and bring her back to his home. Once there he can decide her fate."

I wonder where he is going to get the slave tracker and the dogs from? Better yet, how will he explain them to the police?
