I have finished fiddling around with My website and I could really use some help from objective and discerning third parties to pick apart any weak spots in My presentation. Because it is a business website, even though I do not sell over the internet, I will not post the link here for ethical reasons, but if Y/you would kindly pm Me or just state here Y/your interest and I will PM Y/you the link.

If Y/you could do that, that would be awesome. I can not tell Y/you how grateful I would be for Y/your help.

Thanks in advance..

ahh screw it. I am going to post the URL. Just realize that I do not do business over the internet. I am not in any way trying to solicit your business or promote any other outlet as My site does not have any. It is merely an informational site for prospective clients.

The URL is http://www.northernprotocol.com/ Be as critical, analytical or thoughtful as need be. Thanks.

Hubby and i do some web page design so i am sensitive to details. I have a few comments on the home page:

My first comment i just noticed you already corrected--ones instead of one's.

Under the link for company info your spacing is off.

Under the link for contact the list isn't lined up.

Personally i think your header is too small.

I like the simplicity of the site, that's a big plus.

I am wondering what the main picture is. And the girl in the other pic doesn't look very happy.

I think you did a good job on the layout and in getting your message across.

I'll try to look at the other pages tomorrow.

Ok, thank you very much. I am working on it as W/we speak (I was up until 3:30 in the morning working on it as well).

Well, I have had one other very good response by pm with some good critique, but I know there are a whole bunch of Y/you that have visited the website from the server log.

Soooo. What are Y/you waiting for? Are you afraid of jumping off Y/your bandwagon? Y/you do not have to know much about coding websites. I know very, very little in fact. I just want to know how it appeals to Y/your senses. If Y/you were in My area and were in the market for My services, would Y/you make the contact? Why or why not?

Come on, Y/you can do it. What is the worst A/anyone here can do to you if Y/you do? Hmmm??? lol

Thanks for any and all help.

How does it work with non-sighted reading programs? IE ones that read webpages verbally for the non-sighted.

How does it work in browsers that do not display graphic?

(My mom does web design as well, and those are 2 major considerations she's learned to be aware of)

Also, though I can't put my finger on why, it doesn't look...professional. It looks like someone's basement-buisness webpage. I don't know -why- though.

It's cleanly designed and easy to navigate, though, this is #1 priority for me.

I do not know. I have no way of finding out. My client base all has either IE, Netscape or Mozilla according to My logs, so I should be ok in that regard.

I agree with this and I can not quite put My finger on it either. I have a feeling it has something to do with that header, as someone has mentioned earlier. Maybe I should load up My graphics programs and try to throw something together, although My skills are very weak in that department.

For those that have been with U/us from the start, I have made a whole bunch of changes. I have been getting awesome feedback both through PMs and here. Y/you may like to go back over it and see what Y/you think of the way it has been modified. In particular there has been changes to wording, the addition of a privacy policy, the services pages have changed, the menu on the left has changed.

All of the feedback is GREATLY appreciated. I really needed that, as I really need this site to generate leads.

I think you made some good changes, and i think the site looks professional. To us simplicity is very important. I hate sites with too many graphics, moving pictures, etc.

I peeked at your keywords in the source and think if you want the search engines to pick it up better you need to use the keywords more on your home page and also add the name of your company to the keywords.

Your link "find out" on the home page goes to what i think is a very important page and i would have a link on the left side column of links to that page.

One more picky detail:

On the "services overview" page i think you need a colon here (where i put the red colon), or at least a comma:
"We want you to be doing what you are good at: Being productive;"

Like the site. It is looking pretty good, so far. I have sent My suggestions to you by email on the other side.

The lay out is great. Having designed a few sites myself, I always look for accessibility from one page to another. I was able to get to the home page from every link, and to the applicable links on anyone page.

I like the back ground, not real graphicy, and that's good to many graphics and the page won't load, to little and well- it looks unprofessional, yours is right on the line.

I think your new picture is a big improvement too. What the heck was that other pic anyway?

Thanks guys Sorry, I disappeared, doing some more editing and getting the house ready for a party tonight. The other pic was a wire trough on the back of a rack of switches or something. I guess it is not something you see if you are running a home network...

I am glad you like the other picture better. I changed the handshake one under on site service as well. I also added a check box for how people want to be contacted. I even changed the color of the boxes under products to match the header. I still have yet to check out all the product links and make them pop up in new windows as opposed to the current window. That is going to be a lot of editing, so I am putting it off as long as possible

I also have yet to make My logos all link to the homepage. Again, a hell of a lot of editing in notepad, so I am putting it off as long as possible.

No, the majority of it I did in Frontpage. Now all the tedious stuff I have to do in notepad. It is going to take some work.

I dunno what you did, but damn that looks better :)

As for my other comments, there is a site online that allows you to test how sites work with various services turned off--java, images, flash, etc. I honestly can't remember the URL but am willing to bet you can google for it.

I mostly opperate under the theory that it should be accessable to as many as possible.

The layout is nice, visually. Quite professional looking at first glance.

However you have some serious formal problems in the underlying HTML, and they will be noticeable if, for instance, a blind person tries to access the site.

This is something of a specialty of mine, and I'll be happy to give you some pointers on the subject, if you have the motivation to fix it.

A couple of points there - the web is plagued with so many bad sites that alternative browsers very often report themselves as IE to avoid silly 'detection routines' that otherwise lock them out. So I wouldn't put too much faith on the user-agents shown in your logs. Also, keep in mind that one way to ensure a certain segment of your potential audience does not make up any significant portion of your visitors would be to make a site that simply doesn't work for them to begin with.
