Nope.  The initial "p" is Spanish is unaspirated, so it can sound like a "b" to us.  Hold your palm a couple of inches in front of your mouth and say something like "power."  You'll feel a little puff of air when you articulate the "p."  In Spanish, you don't.

This has been an educational experience....Up to this point of time I always thought the word was "bendejo."

Okay, apparently no one ever saw Banderas in Almodóvar's "Matador"?

The guy is from Spain.

The word is "bendejo." The P version is also correct - these are translations to anything goes. American Latinos say it with a b sound.

The Castilian accent, the accent of my people, is even worse to an American ear because it's very lispy - fag-like if you will. But it is oh so authentic!

No, it's with a p-, not with a b-, and the root meaning is "pubic hair."  You can look it up in RAE (Diccionario de la Real Academia Española).  But this guy already did it:

It wouldn't matter what he said if he had a Latin accent. ~shiver~

Are you saying my languid surf drawl with extra words such as "like," and innappropriate pauses (as if trying to find the last functioning brain cell) sprinkled throughout the sentence seemingly at random is not arousing to women?

I wouldn't call him the worst actor I've ever seen, but he's fucking annoying, I'll go along with that.

He was decent in Philadelphia and Mambo Kings.  Lately he's just been a ham.

Given the choices in Mambo Kings I would take Armand Assante any day of the week. He played the other brother. He was in Judge Dredd as well. That man has always been and always will be fucking hot. Something about that strong jawline and that dimpled chin. Mmmm.  That face, those lips, that voice, oh My...Shivers.

Excuse me while I take a personal moment.

Edited to add that I was so overwhelmed by perhaps my only celebrity obsession (aside from Sinatra) that I forgot the OP completely...

How? No idea. But I would agree he has always been portrayed as being very attentive and interested in the women he seduced.

I edited the original. That man is probably the closest thing to a celebrity obsession to me along with Frank Sintara. I've had a crush on Armand since 1974 and he was in The Lords of Flatbush.

OK, and you can go spell "phuck," "shitt," and "kunt" too if you'd like.  You won't be struck down by lightning, but anyone who knows English will point out that you've misspelled your own expletives.

I am just saying that there is a "spanglish" variant for this term; and in the U.S. what you are most likely to run into is this:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bendejo

There is no academy that dictates the use of language or what are or are not real words. If people say "aksed" instead of "asked" then it's in usage. Utility probably means more than anything.

But whatever...

Here are some words that were not proper English until someone just felt like using them as if they were proper English. Guess what? Now they are proper English!

I'm not much into men at all, but I have to agree with you on this. He's sexy as hell.

It is if you can do so with an accent of some type. Or you look like Armand Assante.

I'm just like ummm saying ya know, like it would be like totally cool to uhhh talk valley with like an accent.
