Hi E/everyone, i am trying to do some research on the 8 basic submissive positions, i know what they are, but am wanting to know the ins and outs, and whys of them.. the physical reasons, mental reasons and all that.. if there is anyone out there who can help me, i would be very greatful. um... which eight? What makes them so submissive? Where are you getting this from? Do you mean postures, or assigned duties? Are you referring to a particular lifestyle tradition? If so, which one? Can you cite your sources? Quick clue - there is no High Council of Esteemed Peers of Dominance handing this stuff down from on high. There isn't even a community, really. You might notice, bouncing around on these boards, that people can't even agree on the difference between what constitutes a submissive versus a slave versus a bottom. That leaves a lot of room for rules, protocols, and other bits of fluff that are meaqningless outside of one particular group. Still, it sounds like fun. If you've got a web link, why not put it up? I'll probably only point at my laptop monitor and laugh, rather than actually sending them mocking emails. But who knows? perhaps their grandmothers smell of elderberries, and i will be forced to taunt them two times! Sorry. It's late, I'm a little loopy. Basically, if you want in-depth information on this stuff, you're gonna have to actually tell us what you're talking about, so that the folks who do the same sorts of things can actually offer you proper feedback. Don't worry about me pointing and laughing. Wherever you go, whatever protocol you follow, somebody is going to think it's absurd. This just happens to be my lucky day.

are you talking about things like "kneel down", "kneel up", "attention"? those are the only three positions that i've repeatedly heard of, and they usually change specifics based on the Dom/me using them

Then the other one. That's a VERY submissive position. But you have to be very double-jointed. So I'm not sure if that's one of the eight or not. By the way, was this research on any at all factual? Gorean has a bunch of fairly set positions for kajira, but there's more than 8... Maybe only 8 are 'basic'?

I know the question was asked in seriousness and I think it runs up against the reality that there are no set rules, positions, commands, mehods of address that tsuperceed whatever you negotiate with your dominant.

I know what you are talking about..... just the other day I was asked to research these and memorize them for someone. He also memorized them. It excites me to be able to assume a position on command and each of them has it's own use :) . Obviously everyone has their own way of doing things and you can change them to whatever makes you both happy, including "Bend Over"! There are ONLY 8?? WOW. I guess that means I'm not a 'twue slave' I know at least a dozen. MJ added one when we saw eachother that I had never been exposed too before. Different positions for different reasons, ie inspection, to greet one's partner, before punishment, etc. Their are 'basic' positions a bottom-type should have some knowledge of, just for their own benefit. The 8 from the link that cricket provided are 8 basic ones, but no where NEAR all the possible positions. Goreans have numerious positons for their slaves http://lara.dune.net/positions/fpositions.shtml I think I counted about 40 on there.

Thank you very much for this, that is actually the site that i got the positions from, and the 8 are for informations sake... 1. Standing legs apart, hands folded behind neck 2. Kneeling upright, hands either behind neck, or folded in front 3. Kneeling waiting, butt on feet, hands palm up on knees 4. Kneeling face down, arms spread forward or folded on back, 5. All fours, either as furniture or whatever 6. Down on belly, basically spread eagle 7. Bent over (punishment or inspection) 8. Bent over, legs spread, hands on ankles So there, now there is no question to what positions i am talking about, and thank you for all the help that i have received so far. kris

Make up your own, and create your own "whys" for them. At least then they'll have some personal meaning to you, rather than reflecting the anonymous preferences of some anonymous creator. You're looking for "purpose" where none exists, beyond what you as an individual find gratifying, fulfilling, exciting, hot, etc. John

As a trainer of submissives, I instruct them to explore submissive positions settling on one which they find puts the, in a submissive postion as well as mental state... ones position is not submissive enough for another... actually the one I think is the best is the one where a sub is on their knees, shoulders down on floor or bed, legs spread and hands laying flat on surface... not only a very vulnerable, accessible but hot to look at as well.

yea....i think i could probably think of a few more than those 8...several of which are alot more fun too.... Dont know if I could come up with an actual reason for them...other than well, kneeling has been considered submissive and a way of showing respect since...well....at least 500bc (thats the earliest I could find it with a quick search, im sure probably earlier) so i guess its kinda ingrained into us anymore....
