CitizenCane -> RE: Does Anyone Have slave Mantras? (6/29/2007 7:11:05 PM)

Mantras are a powerful tool, but it's important to understand how they work. The brain creates connections between neurons in patterns that store various ideas, memories and emotional connections. The more any particular pattern is activated, the more strongly the neurons in the pattern become associated. BUT- simply reinforcing a pattern of words does not create an association with an attitude, which seems to be what the OP desires. For instance, if a slave is listening to, or repeating, a phrase about being a good slave, they will very likely memorize it in short order, and it may well become 'unforgetable' for them. But, if they are feeling angry, resentful, or irritated while this is going on, THAT association will be strongly connected to the content of the mantra as well. Understanding what the sub is associating emotionally with the words of a mantra is critical to understanding it's effect.
