Interesting, I use your technique of breathing but not so much as putting some of the pain on each breath, but instead part of the scream I want to unleash at times. I want to be quiet, and not be gagged. Like you, I also find holding a hand at the most intense point helps me focus on moving on.

I use a sort of breathing technique to deal with pain, fear, discomfort etc as well. I can't explain what I do really, just sort of breath in a rhythm that is right for me and in that breathing and concentration I can either block a lot of what I don't want to deal with, use it to accept more or merely calm myself. It is something I taught myself a long time ago when I first started wearing a breathing apparatus as a firefighter and just sort of blossomed from there until I can now use it to help me through many different things.

I have no idea where I'm at as far as being maso... I like painful stimuli to some extent but have little to compare it to so don't even try. lol

These were very interesting responses, thank you. Just one question: has anyone had his/her nipples hit repeatedly with a thin graphite rod? If so, did you find the pain from that activity to be different or more intense than being beaten on your buttocks or back? Many people recommend relaxing the muscles, but that technique doesn't apply to nipples where there are a multitude of nerve endings.

Master is very into nipple torture and often times he will direct his swats directly to my nipples. This pain is WAY worse then beeing spanked on the bottom (at least for me I cant speak for others)and he knows this, and no relaxing the muscles has NO bearing on the nipples in this case, there is no way to lessen the pain, though the breathing I talked about does help.

Mistress hasn't hit my nipples, She either bites, pinches, or twists them. The pain is not only more extreme than most other areas, but much harder for me to keep from yelling out. In this case, I focus on my tears, rather than my breathing, as just even the mildest pain on my nipples will start my eyes to water. As the tears well up, and as I clench my eyes, I think of my yelps going in little "tear drop boats".

Quite agree with this, its absolutely true that breathing like your in labour is a fab way of helping with the pain, certainly helped me, deep breaths in and slow breaths out, Him touching, stroking, pinching the skin and welts, mumuring little words to me or whispering in my ear, telling me how pleased He is with me, how well im doing, take it for Me slut, that coupled with the repetative hit/thud/sting of the cane/whip/flogger sails me straight into subspace. If He doesnt want me to hit subspace He tends to be more erratic on where the hits land, keeps me on my toes and has me squealing and begging lol

As a masochist and His painslut i love the pain He gives me, i love the Hand that deals it, i am always grateful to Him for giving it to me, i beg it frequently and He always manages to take me to a higher plane, it becomes so passionately intense and when He has finished He holds me tight, tells me what i good girl i am (probably for not screaming n hollering lol) how pleased He is. Plus the fabulous stripes, stripes and bruises he leaves me with!

Just cant beat it.

i'm a bit of a pain slutty lol, i like it, love it actually, both the receiving and the watching, either Master giving it or others taking it.. is yummy.
for me i breathe, not because someone told me to, it just happens, i also wriggle it out, shake like, i dont know why, but it seems to help.
there are times when i am soo into it, its not that i dont feel the cane etc, its that it becomes soo erotic that instead of whincing i am drooling and squirming under the pleasure, maybe this is subspace, who knows.. but its then i dont wish it to stop and can go to great lengths taking it.

i think you should concentrate on you and not what others feel..yes others can help but i found waiting for feelings that came from others descriptions .. to be a let down, we are all different, trust yourself, and listen to yourself.. imo you will get more out of something that way. *s*
and if it just isnt you, then its not you, move on..lesson learned.

Thanks for bringing this topic up EvaLass! I am just beginning to learn how to process pain and it was good to hear everyone's suggestions and experiences. I have the bad habit of tensing in anticipation of pain and forgetting to breathe--neither of which help.

I have Chronic Pain, have had for years now. And, yeah, you get used to it.

That said, that pain is completely different to the pain I get when someone is hurting me.

And that pain is different depending on whether I asked for it or not. Fear combined with pain is a bad combination.

I can close my eyes and just get lost in it. Or I can keep them open and meet the gaze of the person hurting me. Same action, same pain, but it feels completely different.

The Chronic Pain lives in a box, and is all managed with visualisation. On bad days, I add drugs, which help out some but don't take it away.

im with you there on the nipple pain, Master does the same with me, and allows Others to do it too with me, i think for me, it is a worse pain, and i've found an ouch after each one doesnt lessen, but atleast helps me voice how i feel LOL.. so its wack ouch wack ouch wack ooowch lol

Don't make yourself faint with too quick deep breaths, some get dizzy and faint.

Sure you can. That's how people with chronic conditions can walk around smiling and not complaining while suffering enough to bring regular people to their knees. It's how I went from crying at a wasp sting to disregarding the pain of cardiac ischaemia due to hypertension, doing the bulk of root canal with no anaesthetic, and so forth.

Strong painkillers don't do anything for me.

i never thought i would enjoy pain but i do believe you build a tolerence for it or maybe it is just that you are taught how to take it and turn it into something else. Keeping mental control over yourself helps, remembering to breath through the strokes, trying not to panic and staying as relaxed as possible, i say to myself "you know it is going to hurt accept it". Turning that pain into pleasure is something else though, i still don't understand how it works, it must be to do with mental state at the time, sometimes each stroke is pure pleasure other times it can be an horrific experience in which case i usually get my kick when it is over, either way i suppose pain provides the desired effect for me.
