1-When visiting Louisiana, remember that it is illegal to gargle in public...you can do just about anything else in public, but NO gargling!

2-And be careful that you do not get caught shaving while driving in Massachusetts or you'll be in real trouble.

3-If you're going to be driving through Utah, be alert because the birds have the right of way on the state highways.

4-And walking down the streets of Maine with your shoes strings untied is also illegal.

5-Oh, and in Atlanta, not only is it illegal to tie your giraffe to a telephone pole but if you get caught dressing a mannequin without shutting the window shades, you could be in big trouble.

6-When in Nebraska, keep in mind not to spit against wind because not only is it messy, its also illegal.

7-Eating out in Connecticut became so much more pleasant once the law requiring restaurateurs to provide separate nose-blowing and non-nose-blowing sections, went into effect.

8-And if you decide to order cherry pie while eating in Kansas, don't waste your time asking it to be served with a scoop of ice-cream on top...it against the law.

9-In California, its against the law to peel an orange in your hotel room....I guess its ok to peel it in the hallway & then go into your room.

10-If you're planning to do any fishing while visiting Chicago, be sure you don't do it in your pajamas or you might spend the rest of your vacation in jail.

11-And if you're going to set a fire under your mule, don't do it in Ohio..yep, its against the law. Can you believe it?

12-Whistling under water will result in more than getting water in your nose, it will also get you put in jail if you do it in Vermont.

13-And while you and your beloved spouse are enjoying the Florida sun, don't throw dishes if you happen to have a little disagreement with each other. If you break more than 3 a day, you could spend the rest of your vacation eating off of metal trays in the county jail. We're not the only ones with the wacky laws. If you're planning a trip out of the country be aware that....

14-It is illegal to land a flying saucer in the vineyards of France.

15-And last but not least, if you take ill while in Iceland, never seek medical help from anyone who's shingle reads: "Scottulaejnir". You see, ANYONE, can practice medicine in Iceland as long as they display this sign. Loosely translated it means, "Quack Doctor"

What'd really be funny/interesting is to hear the backstory of some of these. What were the circumstance that lead to not tying the Giraffe to the telephone pole. I mean, where else would you tie your Giraffe? Seems perfectly logical to me.

   "Noone shall carry any dangerous weapon upon the public highway, except of course for the purpose of killing a noxious animal or a police officer in the execution of his duty!"

"14-It is illegal to land a flying saucer in the vineyards of France."

Thanks for letting me know. It's a long ride anyway, like five minutes. I would not really want to go there anyway, not my kinda place I think, but if someone else wants to go I just I will have to refuse.

Oh wait, I could land in a town square or airport somewhere huh ? OK, all aboard.

In Alberta, there is a city law that states that any person being released from prison must be given a handgun with bullets, and a horse so that they can ride out of town.

In British Colombia, it is illegal to kill a sasquatch.

In New Brunswick, driving on the roads is not permitted.

In Etobicoke, the bylaw states that ‘no more than 3.5 inches of water is allowed in a bathtub’.

Guelph, is an official ‘NO-PEE’ zone.

In Toronto, it is illegal to drag a dead horse down Yonge Street on a Sunday. **My favorite**
We were tempted to try dragging a stuffed horse down a different street and be pulled over for mischief just to try and find an excuse to bring up this obscure law... but toronto cops can be mean so we opted to let the lion sleep.

Damocles809 -> RE: Strange Laws (8/7/2007 11:59:36 PM)

In Arizona, there's a law on the books that if three or more Native Americans are walking together on city streets, they can be considered a war party and fired upon.

came4U -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 12:06:46 AM)

Those must be the laws that the OPP probably try to refer to at Ipperwash.

uhg. long story.

MistressBastet -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 12:27:46 AM)

In Indiana (and these are still some were on the books) It use to illigal for more than 3 single women to live together it was concidered a whore house. (That was why up untill like 10 years ago Saroritys (or how ever you spell it) Could not have a house on campus they lived in special dorms.

Also it was against the law for more than like 4 people to have there bare feet on the floor or it was conisdered to be an orgy.

Absolutemaster -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 12:36:34 AM)

In Chester, its legal to shoot a Welsh person with a bow and arrow inside city walls after midnight.

In Hereford, you may not shoot a Welsh person on Sunday with a longbow in the Cathedral Close.

Absolutemaster -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 12:37:36 AM)

In Liverpool it is illegal for a woman to be topless in public except as a clerk in a tropical fish store.

In York, excluding Sundays, it is perfectly legal to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow.

MistressBastet -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 12:40:51 AM)

*Makes a reminder never to move to Loverpool and work at a trpical fish store* LOL

MistressHolly71 -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 9:01:30 PM)

In Baltimore, it's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-story window within the city limits. It's also illegal to take a lion to the movies.

MissAidan -> RE: Strange Laws (8/8/2007 9:47:26 PM)

Lets see...I cant remember the state, but there is one (Florida, I think), where it is illegal to have sexual intercourse with a porcupine.  In Kentucky (I almost hate to admit I live here!), it is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket.  Back story to that one is that people used to do it to lure cattle away from their neighbors.  If the cow followed them home, it wasn't legally stealing.  I think this one comes from Ky too...it is illegal to dye a duckling blue and offer it for sale unless six or more are dyed blue and sold as a group.  In the state of Indiana, it is illegal for a man to be aroused in public.  And, in Indiana, there is some strange law about if a male over 17 is in the car with a female under 15 who is not wearing her socks or shoes and they get pulled over, he can be arrested to statitory rape.  I don't get it.

Darkmike -> RE: Strange Laws (8/9/2007 10:36:56 PM)

My flying saucer is actually triangular, can I land it in France so?

cinlela -> RE: Strange Laws (8/10/2007 10:14:39 PM)

ShyinEastTN -> RE: Strange Laws (8/12/2007 5:01:52 AM)

In South Carolina in Sunday at High Noon, you can take your wife to the State House steps and beat her publicly and legally.....

Hmmm...... why do I feel a mass migration to SC comming from CM members soon???

scifi1133 -> RE: Strange Laws (8/13/2007 12:47:54 AM)

In Richmond Va....If you are driving a car down Main street you must have a person walking in front of and behind the vehicle....to warn people.
And the socks and shoes one is a law in Mississippi also.

valkyriesdaughte -> RE: Strange Laws (8/28/2007 9:09:40 PM)

It is illegal to hunt whales in Utah.

In Florida, it is illegal to shower nude in public after 4:00PM on Friday.

In North Dakota, it is legal to shot/kill a Native American, provided he is on horseback and you are in a covered wagon.
