Actually, without babelfish involved, the law states it is illegal to clone, or otherwise genetically create, or recreate an animal which can not be naturally found within the modern world (i.e. within 15 years of date of conception) So, no dodos, and no dinosaurs.

In Baltimore, it's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-story window within the city limits. It's also illegal to take a lion to the movies.

What'd really be funny/interesting is to hear the backstory of some of these. What were the circumstance that lead to not tying the Giraffe to the telephone pole. I mean, where else would you tie your Giraffe? Seems perfectly logical to me.

Master Fire

Me too.

I suspect that some drunk/fool got caught parading down the street with a stolen giraffe, and in the process of being charged with disturbing the peace, or some other mundane charge, created the situation where he was arrested 'for' (read 'while') tying the giraffe to  a pole.

I suspect that others are left over blue laws, and various small town ordinances that were written early on to cover new situations, such as where not to park the first 3 automobiles in town..

And I wouldn't discount the idiocy of some lawmakers as well.

in Idaho it is illegal to fish from the back of a Giraffe.

it is illegal to hypnotize anyone in Moscow Idaho.

in Seattle WA it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon over 6 feet long.

Skottulæknir does indeed translate to the equivalent of 'quack'.  But I've never heard of that law.  Nobody I know has heard of that law (granted, I do not know any lawyers).

It might be that unlicensed doctors (such as those practicing 'alternative' medicince) need to make sure their patients know they are unlicensed, but I doubt someone with an acupuncture clinic wouldn't be raising hell if they had to put 'quack' on their shingle.

15-And last but not least, if you take ill while in Iceland, never seek medical help from anyone who's shingle reads: "Scottulaejnir". You see, ANYONE, can practice medicine in Iceland as long as they display this sign. Loosely translated it means, "Quack Doctor"
