uwinceismile -> what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 2:32:43 PM)

i see a great deal of politcal discourse here. mostly a lot of "im right" and ur "wrong".
followed quickly by links to pages found somewhere in cyberspace to back up ones position.
how about we try to find solutions? i think we can most all agree about the differences.
are you ready to put down the sword, and come to the table to find a cure? do you have it in you to reach a compromise?
if we cant do that here, how can we ever expect the folks in washington to do it?
no, i dont have a particular topic, there are way to many to choose from. pick ur fav, and lets see if we can actually come up with an idea? a plan, to make most folks happy. and i know not everyone will be accepting. but those unwilling to try, have already shown thier true colors

Ummmmmmmm Nah,.That wouldn't be any fun.
If we did that this site would go down faster than "Air America."

rofl.... unfortunately im getting the same sense from a lack of participation ...damn shame tho. a lot of great minds at work here. i think we could actually have a great dialogue if we would just try..... who knows ?? we may actually solve something, if we just quit starring at one another

cjenny -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 5:05:42 PM)

I think there are people that have a difficult time seeing things from a viewpoint they do not trust. It can be so easy to read a motive that isn't there.

If there were a way to really bring empathy for others to the forefront that would help, but I don't see a way to do that.
So it is left up to individuals who continue to try, who refuse to give up. I hope I am one of those.

caitlyn -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 5:10:26 PM)

I don't mind the sword, when debate is going on. It shows passion ... and can you really blame a passionate person for being passionate?

I try to use a simple rule ... when I flame someone, or misquote them, twist their words to make my point, or generally just act like a total tool ... I try to always remember to apologize. I've apologized to a ton of people on here ... so I guess I flame too much.

I think Popeye has gotten a few apologies out of me ... one for each log I threw on the fire. [;)] What's funny, is that Popeye and I often disagree, but we always seem to avoid the flames these days. I think there is something to this owning up to what we say and do.

Oh ... and since we are two of the only four people that will be voting for Ron Paul (along with Ranger and Dusty), we sort of have to stick together. [;)]

i agree cjenny,
and im hoping that as individuals, we here can start to take those first steps. we already by being here, show a tolerance that many outside our community lack (by and large) and i would like to see that tolerance extended to each others thoughts here, and hopefully we could get past the ole stances we normally take, and are willing to try and see the other guys point of view. few here seem to have that ability.i know i strugle with it at times. but i am ever hopeful that a brighter day lay ahead

I know a brighter day lies ahead. I believe that in every part of myself. 'Act as if, and it will become a part of you'. I believe in that as well, so for me the more I try & reach others the closer I get to that brighter day.

I hope that made sense, it isn't something I've ever really verbalized before. The times I've tried to discuss it were with people of an opposite mindset lol.

philosophy -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 5:20:26 PM)

....i think optimism is the key. While we concentrate on what divides us we forget just how much we have in common. In todays world it is all too easy to be pessimistic, but i am reminded of the Windmill Theatre in London. While the city was being bombed that theatre refused to close. It was a beacon of hope in a dark time.
We need to find a new Windmill today........

Woah thar hawsee!!!  Ron has my vote!

To the OP i do post solutions all the time and they go literally without notice and speaking of ron paul here is one of those solutions and i was nice and didnt even say i told you so, (not referring to you personally).

http://www.collarchat.com/m_1104820/mpage_1/key_2755/tm.htm#1104820

Tho solution on the big picture is to start taking over this country as we the people were meant to govern it instead of leaving it up to the politicians which all starts with accurate education and a lean toward constitutional values.  Which means whole libraries of "colorful" laws need to be tossed.  Amendments that violate the constitution need to be repealed.  The people of this country need to focus on the other not the self.

We need to realize the government is NOT our friend.

Finally a 3rd party is NOT a wasted vote, (with exception to ron), never vote for the lessor of 2 evils.  a 3rd party vote is a wake up call and a protest vote to what is happening in our government.  So if not for ron vote 3rd party.

Cum-Bay-Yah, Cum-Bay-Yah.
And they all lived happily everafter.

Sinergy -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 6:29:10 PM)

"How can I change my world, Sir Paul?  There are so many causes and issues."

Paul McCartneys response was classic.

"Pick one and stick with it, they all connect."

I have picked mine, I envision a world where people mean what they say and say what they mean, and violence and cruelty are replaced by gentleness and respect.

So I do what I do.

lol at "Air America"

To the OP: your intentions are noble, and compromise does happen, occasionally. Moreso "out there" than online, it seems, though, and I'm not sure why.

Lordandmaster -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 7:25:17 PM)

OK, I'll start.

Health insurance.

Got any ideas?

Something tells me this "coming to the table to find a cure" business isn't going to last long.

uwinceismile -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 7:30:47 PM)

thank you to all who have posted,
and to L&M for suggesting a topic .
it would seem that any topic chosen will likely be multi faceted, and then one surely is. i for one wish that the folks who made the descisions as to my health care, were actually doctors. but as with so many things. the legal depts seem to dominate the day, and everyone has to cover thier ass so far as liability goes, and the cost go thru the roof :(

Level -> RE: what can we do to promote the healing? (6/30/2007 7:44:55 PM)

Okay, health insurance.

I'm intrigued by what they're doing in Massachusetts. It has as its aim total coverage, but it still looks to be flexible.

quote:

The law divides the population into three segments:

_The poorest, making less than the federal poverty level, are eligible for free care.

_People making slightly more, up to three times the federal poverty level, can enroll in state subsidized plans.

_Those making more than three times the federal poverty level — at least $30,630 for an individual and $61,950 for a family of four — can choose their own coverage from new, lower-cost private plans, if they aren't already insured through work.

Is this a reasonable starting point? Should it be a template for the rest of the country, or should each state be allowed to seek it's own unique plan?

i love watching someone make a case for their strongly held beliefs, even when i disagree with them.....convictions, as long as they dont become fanaticism(is that a word?), are amazing......

being able to express your opinions, without leaving someone who disagrees feeling they were attacked, is something i am working on......

now ill sit back and watch yall, and hopefullly learn something also.
