So, unless I hear the term used in an affectionate manner, it is still appears to be SILLY to me.

Reality for me is that terms of endearment are organic.  They arise within the context of a relationship.  And for me they are agreed upon by those involved.   Embraced by those involved.  This isn't really worth having much opinon about IMO.   When you find someone who works for you, you all will find words which work for both of you.  Others enjoy what works for them and it would probably be nicer to not to call their choices silly, even in your opinon.

Lady Pact mentioned before she calls some of her submissive friends "little one". My Dominant friends call me the same thing, not to mention "boy" and "pup". I think myself on equal footing with them despite, in fact because of, these terms of affection. Because that's what they are, to me and them at least. I'm the youngest person in our circle of folks by far, and being the "boy" is a reflection of that. It's a nickname I'm proud of, and like Lady Pact mentioned, makes me feel special.

I don't mind being called boy at all. Cute, soft, "little" petnames make me smile, when used with affection. Though I might be a little offput by somebody calling me that before they got to know me a bit.

Exactly!  Even though certain friends aren't My submissive, it doesn't mean that they aren't special to Me.

That very well may be the case, Irish.  Real life gets in the way of fantasy MOST of the time! A sufficient amount of people have expressed their view of this as was solicited by the OP, only to be dismissed as wrong simply because he has an issue with that word "boy" and its usage.  (And it was called as such by at least one of the women who gave him a reply only to be dismissed.)  He's made it sound as though he really didn't wish to DISCUSS the usage of the pet name, rather, simply complain/protest its use.

I concur.  While My boys have also all been younger than Me, I've never really looked it as a term of age, rather a term of affection.  I do usually use it in the context of "My boy" which has hardly an insult.  I've always seen the term as the equivilant to "girl" used in reference to a female submissive.

I would love to hear how you say it, because if it is said with affection, it would surely change my mind.

I read back thru addicted2it's responses and he seems genuinly grateful to hear the opinions expressed here on this thread.. He also said that when the term was used in a humiliating way that it was cool, as long as the intention was understood.
I saw one post from him that was confusing to me. Other than that, seems he is learning from reading all of the great responses on his thread.

When I originally posted this topic, I was feeling a bit confrontational and probably hasty.  I never even imagined that it would become a 103-post topic to date.

Someone nailed me right off by saying that it was obviously a "hot button" issue for me.  And yes, it is.  And taking anything out of context is wrong, because I am not there like the proverbial fly on the wall every time the word is used.

As with any other name, it can be used with affection or in a demeaning way.  It can be sexy, stimulating, demeaning, or it can be insulting.  But it is really none of my business who uses what and where, because it really belongs in the realm of those who choose to use it and those who accept it's usage.

And, YesMistressirish, I am learning a great many things from this thread.  But that is what is good about this Forum, because it is a great resource for feedback by all of us in this great community of ours, and one is never too old to learn something new.

Thank you.
