Status: offline 		is legalizing drugs a good idea to you? i tend to think its a bad idea. but my own history with drugs and alcohol bias me tremendously

If a person does not own their own self, then they are not free.

So, any FREE PERSON has an absolute right to do with their body, as they see fit.

Period.

Everyone who cannot, is by definition the Slave of the person who has the authority to tell them whey they are PERMITTED to do with their own self.

i agree to a point, but surely its inpracticle to believe that a person can do whatever they see fit with thier own property.
for instance, in a case where what they want to do, would interefere with anothers rights.
i could give a few examples, i i thinks its easy enuff to understand ....
i look forward to ur response :)

We already tried to outlaw alcohol. It didn't work too well.
I have always leaned towards drug legalization. I know that it would cause some problems in society, but I can't imagine them being worse than the problems having them illegal causes.
I agree that alcohol causes much more damage than marijuana use, but I say they both should be legal.

Status: offline 		I believe both marijuana and alcohol (and possibly other substances which are non-addictive when used recreationally) should be legal and regulated similarly, to keep them out of the hands and lives of minors.  Cigarettes in their current chemical laden form should be banned, although if you want to roll your own home grown tobacco, I have no problem with that.  But that's just me...

Status: offline 		there is a  part of me that believes that if we could get the illegal drug trade off the streets, we would be better off. i just dont know that the govt is capable of having a "dept of recreational drugs" beauracy (sp)..i dont see them being able to make it work..
i think if they allowed an outside business enterprise to run it,(and pay uncle sam the tax and revenue for it, ) that it would stand a better chance.... im not sure that this would stem the tide of blackmarket drugs all together tho???
what i do know is that we are inefficient at best with how we handle it now. way too many peeps getting locked up for getting high etc.. and soooo much crime can be attached to the desire for folks to get more drugs.(theft to get money to use)
thats another prob i see... u may be able to make it legal, but will the folks with habits have the money to pay ? or will they still have to rob , steal , and mug to get it?(yes, i know not every user does this) so please dont flame for that alone .
i welcome ur thoughts and insights

If it were legalized, then the money saved on incarceration should be immediately moved to be used in effective treatment programs. Legalizing drugs will remove a money maker from organizaed crime. it will remove the taboo from it somewhat. It will make it so that it is in the open and more readily seen and addressed. Does anyone really believe that legalizing drugs will cause drug use to go up?

i dont mean to suggest that individual "a" doing drugs , infringes on indivual "b's " freedoms...
but to say that "a" can do whatever he wants...is a lil far reaching...but ok to a point, so long as it doesnt interfere with "b's " or the rest of our individual rights ....

i see on daily basis what Drug doing to ppl. and i really don't wonna see more and more 13/14/15 year old girls and boys selling them self for cheep money just to get the next Hit or getting high just to make it 1 day more.
i see it and I'm one of tausends of man and woman who fight drugs not only for the law  but mostly for this Kids.
what would you feel if your 13 year old Child comes and tells you Mom or Dad i have Aids I'm pregnant I got Herb. .. I skipp school .. I fuck for Money b/c you don't have money what i can spend for Drugs.

Just 1 time in your Life be honest to your self  .. and you know ... all you want is go .. find the crackhead who hooked you child and put a bullet in his head ... i feel this way .. but the human rights of the drugdealers do not alow me to do so.
All you Doms if your sub don't do what you want ... you have some punishment for them .. don't you???
you all live in a land of freedom and rules and regulations .. so live by them
for every 1 who use Drugs .. pls do so .. do it at home .. be alone .. die alone .. don't call for help if your best friend OD's ... just let him have the freedom to die ... all by him self..
I'll take the freedom and put every drug dealer / user in Jail ... and i love it.. just my life and i love  it !!

and forup for all well minded Coments about my spelling .. if you can talk read and write 3 languages like me .. you might complain .. if you only speak english .. go back to school and try to learn..

Status: offline 		Drugs are already legal as long as they are licensed by the government. Without those drugs and the companies that make them, where would our elected representatives get there campaign funds? You don't really want a regular citizen have the ability to run for office do you?

It appears now they create the drug and develop ad campaigns to sell the symptoms. Instead of banning cigarette commercials, I'd pay extra not to have drug company ads. Every time they start with; "Are you...." I'm feeling that my life won't be complete without the "cure" of taking whatever drug wakes me up, puts me to sleep, or keeps me "balanced" throughout the trials and tribulations of my day.

Marijuana will never be legalized. How can the government and their affiliate drug companies, allow the legalization of a plant that you can grow at home easily and inexpensively? The fact that it relieves 1/2 the symptoms of drugs we're currently spending Billions of dollars notwithstanding.

Status: offline 		Why do you believe it will go up? If you think it is because of ease of access being better, that is naive. I live in a middle class neighborhood, 35 miles outside Atlanta, and I can either go across the street or down two houses to get weed. Since weed is illegal, the people that ultimately distribute it will deal in other illegal drugs, so it just takes some chit chat and cash. The current users may use more, and in the beginning there may be some increase, but overall it should go down.

By decriminalizing drug use, you save a huge amount of money spent in the courts and jails. That money could directly go to drug treatment and education. Treatment and education by far, have a larger impact on reducing drug use than punitive measures.

The price of drugs would decrease, thus the drug user would have to conduct less criminal activity to get the drugs they want (less burglary, armed robbery, whatever).

Just as when prohibition was lifted, there will be an increase of driving while under the effects, but the statues for DUI should still be imposed, and with more money in education and treatment, the long term amount of drug users will decline.

There are many ways to handle the decriminalization, some of the phase approaches I have read seem to be best, where the drugs with the least addictive and harmful qualities are decriminalized first. Then the decline in cost to prosecute and jail is funneled into treatement and education. Once the treatment and education programs are in effect for a certain period of time, the next phase of drugs is decriminalized. As each phase is implemented, a study should be done and advisory panel created to tweak the programs as needed.

There are pro's and con's to the decriminalization, but the long term pro's seem to outweigh the short term con's.
