Soler found doping on something, didn't pass test after stage 14.
This means another Disco wears a jersey.  Popovych may be in the KOM jersey, he's in 3rd, behind Contador for that classification.

I think it's a question of a tipping point. Yes, baseball has had more than its share of cheaters, and they haven't come close to resolving the problem. But I don't believe they've yet reached the tipping point where you look at a baseball player and simply ASSUME that he must be a cheater.

In other words, what baseball needs is more testing to expose the cheaters so that geniuses like you will finally be able to say "AHA! They really are cheating! I finally get it!"

Your arguments just seem ridiculous to me. Rasmussen's "crime" was not reporting his whereabouts so he could be subject to random testing during the off season; this isn't just pee in a cup testing, but they also search the rider's belongings and that is how guys like David Millar got busted. Imagine if they did that to baseball or football players . . . well, don't strain yourself too hard on that because I'm sure you'll just come up with some more half thought out arguments.

Rasmussen getting sacked for nothing more than lying is extraordinary -- perhaps if the Giants were to fire Barry Bonds then they would reach this so called tipping point you speak of. Instead, fans are lining up to watch him make history. So go stick your head in the sand and enjoy the game!

I think this is the most entertaining Tour in a long time. I've never seen anything like the day before the last rest day with Contador relentlessly attacking  Rasmussen -- usually someone cracks from efforts like that, but neither of them did. Amazing!

The Vino drama was great too -- he crashes, he battles on but loses time, he crushes the field in the tt, and then gets tossed out of the race. And it is almost comical because he was the poster boy for a team sponsored by Kazakh industry, and they all leave in disgrace. HA!

I thought that was enough drama for one race, but then the Rasmussen saga was even wackier -- he gains time on the field from an early breakaway in the mountains, gets the yellow jersey and holds it with a strong time trial, survives relentless attacks in the Pyrenees . . . and then gets tossed off his team for lying about where he was last spring. WTF?

And now we're left with a relatively unknown rider in the lead. Contador showed he had talent for stage races when he won Paris-Nice earlier this year, but that is only a 1 week race so he entered the Tour with modest expectations. Now he's on the verge of winning on the biggest stage possible, and he'll surely renegotiate his contract for top dollar. All this at age 24, and they say cyclists don't reach their peak until 28 -- let's hope he continues to improve instead of getting sidetracked by his early success like Ullrich did.

And all of this going on with a backdrop of spectacular scenery and fans going apeshit. I really pity those who are so simpleminded they just say "Ew! It's a dirty sport so I don't watch it." because they're missing a helluva drama and spectacle.

Come on happypervert, take out all the emotion from what you just wrote and you're not left with much that holds water.

I didn't say there was no cheating in baseball.  On the contrary, I said that baseball has had more than its fair share of cheating, and I agreed that cycling has much stricter testing.  And I said this: Baseball hasn't yet reached the point where I simply assume that any professional baseball player is cheating.  But cycling?  That's a tough one.  I'm pretty sure many, if not most, sports fans are going to wonder whether this year's Tour champion won because of his true ability, or because he managed not to get caught cheating.

As for Rasmussen: his crime wasn't failing to report his whereabouts.  His crime was MISreporting his whereabouts.  There's a difference, and you know it.  One could be chalked up to absent-mindedness; the other is deliberate deception.  In baseball, as weak as their testing regimen is, a player cannot avoid a drug test simply by lying about where he is.  By the same token, if you lie about your legal issues to the Commissioner's Office in football, you'll get your ass suspended.  Ask Pacman Jones.

And here's the most damaging thing about what you said: you've tacitly admitted that cheating is rampant in cycling; your whole defense is that it must be rampant in other sports too, and I must be an idiot for not realizing it.  So is that truly what you believe, or is that merely the convenient rhetorical tactic you decided to use on me?

Because if I truly believed cheating were rampant in any professional sport, I couldn't watch it anymore.

Edited to add: I guess this is the issue I'm really interested in, and why I'm persisting with this even though it's apparent that I'm just pissing everyone off.  Are fans of cycling still interested in the Tour because they believe the sport has not been completely corrupted by cheating, or are they interested even though they believe the sport has been completely corrupted by cheating?  So far I see one clear answer to this question: sublimelysensual said she doesn't think most of the top riders dope.  What about the rest of y'all?

What an awesome time trial yesterday! I have to admit I was glued to the tv for the last hour of the trials. I was also happy to see things stay the same in the GC today. Discovery Channel did an incredible job, and kudos to Levi for making it to the podium. So..my burning question is..what was in the little briefcases the Disco riders were awarded for the overall team win? -laughs..inquiring minds want to know-

The TT yesterday was great.   I'm also glad that no one challenged anything today, although I think it would've been easily handled had it been attempted.
It's been a weird Tour, lots of questions and "what if's" concerning riders and teams who didn't finish the Tour.
Who is going to be the new Disco Team sponsor?  I heard a message board rumor that LA talked to Google.

Yeah, what a fun and entertaining Tour! The top three guys finishing within 30 seconds of each other is just crazy after 3 weeks and 2,000 miles. And it was nice to see Levi win a stage -- I didn't think he had much of a shot at the podium, but then I expected Vino and/or Kloden to be ahead of him and also thought Menchov would be in the mix, but he got screwed by being put to work for the chicken when he took yellow. HA!!

Discovery's next sponsor is going to have to raise the budget because Contador is going to demand a big fat raise. And I bet a big budget team poaches Soler from that rinky dink outfit he rides for -- he's earned himself a raise too! Pretty neat seeing these guys come out from almost nowhere to excel on the biggest stage there is. Bravo!!
