If a slave 'quits' a Master (makes it clear that she is unwilling to continue the relationship) without asking or begging release, does that mean she is still owned property and thus a 'runaway slave'? If he refuses to release her, does she remain his property?

If the slave doesn't want to be in the relationship any more, the guy can't force her to stay. And if she chooses to run away, and start searching again, she will. To her, she is no longer owned, no matter what the Master says.

Maybe she had to flee for her life - would you beg release under those conditions? If she just got tired of being a slave it would have been respectful and curteous to beg release, but in reality you cannot enslave someone who doesn't want to be. If someone really wants to leave and the other tries to stop them it ceases to be consentual and therefore the Master is "illegally" detaining someone. i think the legal term is "forced imprisonment" - i know because it recently came up in a law suit of a friend of mine - not bdsm vanilla but same concept - someone tried to keep her against her will and grabbed her wrists and told her she wasn't going anywhere.

Reality rules in the end.

From my perspective, an M/s relationship exists in part because the slave consents to be a slave. If the slave no longer consents, then the relationship has ended. It takes two (or more) people to maintain a relationship and only one to end it. Knight's Kyra

In fantasy land, yes you are owned until released. In the real world which some of us live, then you are gone, and the situation has failed. Failed in living up to promises on either part, lack of communication, truth finally comes out, desire changes, or whatever, move on. The dom will think he owns you, until he feels he is ready to release you, but you are still gone. Move on and learn.

If she no longer consents, then she is no longer a slave. It isnt legal slavery, its an assumed position becasue both parties are in agreement of what that position should be. If one changes their mind and needs out, then it is over. The Master might not like it, but he is powerless to do a thing about it. Were he to try and reclaim his property against her will, the local authorities could definately step in. Even in teh case of a slave contract, they are not legally binding. So, in short, no. DV

Okay come on people, the real answer is pretty obvious here, I've never understood why questions that have blazingly obvious answers always attract a gazillion earnest replies pointing out things like "No, he cannot sell your baby.", and "Yes, it is illegal to kill you." Thanks for the tips, they're probably hugely useful for people who uh, don't live on planet Earth? So I'm sticking with my line, yes, he owns you, and he can track you down, bring you back, and force you to service him sexually for the rest of his days...

It depends on how the slave feels within him/her really. She may know she isn't owned in the traditional sense, but not really feel "free" or "available" either. However, I would certainly say that the master can not claim rights or privileges as if he/she were their slave and would be very inappropriate to try.

What they said. Legal ownership in this country of a human has been outlawed for some time. If said Master were to come after ex-slave to force ex-slave back, it is kidnapping. If said Master stalks slave that said they wanted out, said Master would be guilty of stalking, & risks punishment of such. If slave needs help breaking away, get in touch with a local women's shelter, & get a restraining order, &/or legal help.

Where a Leather Master believed in this concept that a once a slave consents they are enslaved until they are released. Well.. currently he enjoying nice cramp quarters courtesy of tax payer dollars for the next 20 years. Oh yeah... he also had another boy as well.. The boy assistant the Master like a good boy that he was and enjoyed alittle time of his for his trouble. So... if she/he is still owned property without regard to consent... well.. I suspect the Master will enjoy some rent free accomodations.

No such thing as REAL slavery (at least none that is legal) Face it the slave has the law on her side and if she wants to leave the Master is shit out of luck as far as that is conserned. edited to add: I know what you mean about questions with abviouse answers and they can get a little old but some people need reashurance that what they think is right even if it does seem so blantently obviouse to some and there is nothing wrong with that, if you dont like it just ignore those threads thats all.
