I believe that where my Master is, is my home. It's not the location, type of house, or what's in it. It's the people in it and the love shared that makes it a home.

Many I think would agree with you... and I am one of them.. even thou I don't like the fucking town my parents live in.  But none the less it is Home.

But then... for some... where they growup is not an idea place and isn't home that all.  Personally, I think those that can the place they growup as home well they are lucky, very lucky.

To me, wherever my Jarl and our UMs are, is where my heart is, and that is home.

For the moment, the UMs and i live with my parents, and their home is where i grew up, and will always feel like home to me, but it won't necessarily "be home."

well... I would think your preference would matter to you..  it matters not to me and I don't claim or pretend otherwise.  I reserve that for someone that holds significance to me.  And as Insincere as it is... my regrets for seducing you.. unintended as it maybe.

home is community to me......i live 5 miles from the house i was raised in......and i adore the way memories of 35 years ago will sometimes pop into my head as i drive to work or something......

selling the house i was raised in was like losing a dear friend, and if i had it to do over again, i would move in there instead.....

i get a sense of contentment when i turn onto my road.......i feel wonderful when i walk in my house and see things on the walls that i have seen all my life.....i love looking at the old red chair with steps that fold in under it and remembering climbing up on it to wash dishes and brush my teeth when i wasnt tall enough to even see over the counters.....

i could leave the shell of the house, but for me, the things i have-none worth money, but oh so sentimental to me, i couldnt leave them behind.  they comfort me.

i copied this off my blog......this is part of what makes my home, home to me....

ever have a memory just come to you and make you shudder with the intensity of it?  something triggers emotions so strong they almost buckle your knees?  i reached for some butter to put on corn...a simple task, done daily by millions i am sure...but the butter dish is the same one from when i was a child-old and plastic-the base an old green color-the top clear...and i see my mom taking it out of the old green fridge, smiling as she goes to butter me a biscuit and put some homemade jelly on it....i can smell her and feel her eyes looking at me with love.....i almost reach out to touch her, but then i realize she is with me already, in my heart and soul-the very fiber of my being....a tear and a smile decorate my face at the same time, i catch my breath and close the fridge door....yeah this is definately the good stuff in life.

   I've moved around a lot in my life as well, and while material things definitely aren't what make a home, I do think the familiarity of certain things are maybe what make us more emotionally comfortable in the new place. My last move was slightly traumatic, I was forced by circumstance to leave a lot of things behind that had significant emotional value to me. What I discovered was that, for myself, home is where my um and family are. Yes, I miss some of the things..an afghan my grandmother had made for me when I was a little girl, things like that, and I was sad for a while not having them around, but I still have the memories, and those are more important. Having that experience shifted my mindset in more ways than one. I think maybe it's one of those things, that unless you've had to experience it, can be hard to put into perspective. Just my two cents, as always...

nods... I can relate to this.  The past year I have rarely been home.  In fact, My time with Alandra and Kyra likely don't total much more than a month with them in my presence.  One of the benefits this past year was for both Alandra and Myself to appreciate at a more deeper level what Kyra goes through being away from home.  It also reaffirmed what I miss about being at home.  In alot of ways, I don't think I am going to find the new house home until Kyra has be moved in.  There is going to be a distinct line that will exist until that occurs.  As difficult as is to experience it... I am treasuring it all the same.

Home is where I am safe and secure. Home is where I am comfortable. Home is where I want to be.

It's where Valyraen is, where my animals are.

I understand the trouble the other girl had moving into an already established house though. Seeing so much of "them" and so little of "us" would be difficult for me. I know that those things shouldn't matter, but for some people they do. I think the new house that everyone likes and arranging the furniture so that everyone is happy, or at least has a say in something or other, will help make it a home for everyone.

For me home is with Master, my ums, and the dog.  Its a place where we all find refuge and peace after doing whatever it is we all do during the day.  I treasure some family things (ie) my grandmas candy dish, the picture of my father in the army, my music box collection, but they are things that add to the comfort I find when I walk through the door.  Ive discovered that four walls and a roof dont make a house a home.   Its the relationships and the interactions of all of us that contribute to making our home, "home."

For me 'Home' is where I feel safe and cared for.  It is the place that has my best memories, also some of my worst ones.  It is the place that I can return to whenever I want and the place I was never judged.  It is my warmth in the winter months and air conditioning in the summer.....lol.

I have 2 homes, the one I grew up in, and the one I moved out of just a few months ago.

A part of me wants to say Home is whereever we are together, but we have lived in some intresting places that never quite felt like 'home' I'm not quite sure why. My Mothers house always felt like home, even after she died, it was her smell, her things that she enjoyed that made it something more than four walls and a door.

Our home now is our first  not rented and we have made it ours with little touches that bring comfort. I'm one of those people that  love to surrounds herself with pictures amd also there is a bit of a sense of pride in that we can say this is our home that we both worked towards.

Home is where the heart is but it helps if the walls aren't crumbling or the roof leaks :)

My guess is that it's hardest on the kids, and that the move to make this a new home, specially with a new adult permanently in the mix, will be hardest for them in many ways.

i am much like you LA - while i agree a home is much more then "things" and it is a place to feel safe and secure i have a certain style when decorating my home. i have very specific tastes as to what i like and feel comfortable in and what i don't. For instance i could never be really comfortable in a very modern/technical type styled home.  I hate pastel colors and prefer the deep rich earth tones.  i am creating a whole room in my house to americana which i have slowly collected for a few years now, etc.  If a new person came into the mix and had tastes that clashed with mine it would greatly upset me. Guess it's just one of my pet peeves.  i would probably have to rent a little one bedroom or studio i could have all to myself or i would go insane!
