SweetDommes -> My baby is missing (6/19/2005 10:28:29 PM)

No, I'm not talking about a human baby, but for those of you who know me, we don't have kids yet - we have animals ... and our animals are our kids. Today, the three of us were watching a movie together, and when it was over, rob took the dog out to potty. He came back in, carrying MIA (Holly's kitten) and announcing that one of the screens had popped out of it's window so we needed to do a kitty-count. I went downstairs and fed them (the only sure-fire way of getting all 4 of them in the same place at the same time) and only three showed up. MIA, and the two older cats. My baby didn't show up. He's a pig, and never misses chow ... plus they had been out of food for awhile, so they were all hungry, so I KNOW that Grendel (that would be my baby) would not have missed it if he were in the house. So he's missing. We have no idea where he could be, other than outside.

We currently have the porch door that we use most often propped open with wet cat food and a carrier that MIA uses often (so it smells strong of her ... hopefully he'll follow the scent home).

Oh no! I hope that he comes back safely I know how much all of them mean to you. Let me know what happens

SweetDommes -> RE: My baby is missing (6/19/2005 10:43:41 PM)

Thanks

I'm so upset. We had two of them get out of the house somehow last Sept (we still don't know how ... at least this time we know where they got out and we fixed it), and we only caught one of them. That is why we got MIA (gotten because Holly's babycat, Perry, was Missing In Action). This time, it's my baby that is the one missing. [:o] If I didn't know how bad it would fuck up my sinuses I'd cry.

Being a cat person myself I know how much the little furballs wind up meaning to us feline friendly folks. I hope that everything turns out well and that your baby comes home safe and sound. I've heard that most cats (a lot of animals for that matter) possess finely tuned internal "GPS" - or in this case Kitty Instincts! As long as your furball knows that home is where she is loved and fed I think she'll do her best to come back when she feels ready to.

Oh, i'm so sorry! i, too, am a cat person (having three of the cute little furballs running around). i really hope your cat comes home and that the box works. Good luck!

Thanks ... I already miss him terribly. I don't know how I'll sleep tonight ... he always snuggles up against me *sniffle*

brightspot -> RE: My baby is missing (6/19/2005 11:00:17 PM)

So sorry SweetDommes,
My cats are my babies too!
Do you have him identified in anyway?
If he dosen't show up, have Rob put up
some flyers with his pic. If that is Grendel's pic
he sure is a cutie and if someone took him in
a flyer may help bring him back to you before
anyone can get too attached. Let us know when
he gets back home(crossing fingers).
The Best of Luck!

call me cold but i worry more about critters than i do a human.

SweetDommes -> RE: My baby is missing (6/19/2005 11:08:07 PM)

He has a collar with a large star tag on it - you can't quite see it in the av, but yeah, that's him. It has his name and our phone number and does say "reward for return" so hopefully someone will be greedy enough to call us and bring him home. We will be putting pics of him around if he hasn't been found in the next couple of days.

*sigh* at least we haven't found his collar and not him (that is what happened with Perry).

You know, I’m all for people voicing their opinions and for hearing a variety of them. But perhaps this not the most appropriate time to voice this kind of opinion as the OP is obviously in distress. I think an apology for your insensitivity is in order.

SweetDommes, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I know I would be a basket case if my big old tom cat when MIA. We do get so attached to them. I'll be sending you good vibes.

SweetDommes -> RE: My baby is missing (6/20/2005 6:27:19 AM)

Thanks LA

here is the good news:

Well, I did manage to sleep, and after rob and Holly had both been out a few times, and Holly went to work, rob opened the door and said "hey, your cat's back" ... of course, I'm still asleep at this point, so I'm like "huh *blink blink* what?" He said again "your cat's back, he's in the hallway ... well, now he's in the kitchen"

So I stumbled out of bed, picked up my baby (who had dashed into my bedroom first, and tried to hide under the bed), and asked rob when he got back. Rob didn't know, just that he opened the door, and Grendel was sitting there looking at him and crying.

So yay, my baby came home. I don't know if his nose is better so he could follow it back home, or if he's just luckier than Perry was, or if he's just such a scaredy cat (this would be my vote) that he never left the propery and was probably hiding under the deck the whole time we were looking last night ... but he's home.

siamsa24 -> RE: My baby is missing (6/20/2005 6:31:00 AM)

That's great to hear! Welcome back Grendel! [:D]

I am glad the kitty is back! Really glad!!

Now...maybe I am not awake enough this morning, but I thought asissyforher's comment was indeed expressing sympathy and not at all deserving of a slapdown.

That's how I read it too, I thought it was expressing sympathy

That's what I thought to, otherwise I would have blasted him myself (I was not in a particularly forgiving mood last night when he was missing).

and in ultimate cuteness news ... as soon as I posted this the first time, he jumped up in my lap, crawled up me to my shoulder, layed down and started purring ... you think he missed me too? LOL *huggles her babycat*

DesertRat -> RE: My baby is missing (6/20/2005 7:10:53 AM)

I had a similar scare 2 years ago. I had only had my little Daisy, a found stray, for a month or two, when I noticed a pushed out corner of the screen one evening. She was nowhere to be found. I freaked!! Ran all over the neighborhood for a couple hours, till my flashlight batteries went dead. So I ran to the store for more batteries. When I got back THERE SHE WAS....at the end of the driveway. But she wouldn't come in...she was kinda freaked, I guess. So I took her favorite toy, a round plastic thing with a ball in a channel around the edge, and put it on the porch and kept batting the ball around, so she could hear it. That did it. She couldn't resist my challenging her to a game of "DaisyBall".

SweetDommes -> RE: My baby is missing (6/20/2005 7:15:33 AM)

That's cute. Unfortunately, my little monster doesn't play ... he eats and sleeps ... and then lays on me and sleeps some more before going for a snack (yes, he's fat, yes, we've put him on a diet, yes, we are going to have to do something to get him more exercise ... but have you ever tried to motivate a cat to exercise? damn near impossible LOL). Thus I put food out on the porch for him.

siamsa24 -> RE: My baby is missing (6/20/2005 7:15:55 AM)

My cat freely roams my mom's neighborhood, keeping it free from mice, baby squirrels, cardinals (is it a crime or a sin for your kitty to have a preference for killing the state bird?) and bugs. She is known affectionatly as "Momo" (her real name is Princess Mononoke or "Mo Baby" for short). We tried to keep her inside, but that worked for about 10 minutes and then we couldn't handle her cying all the time.
