I'm associating innovation with industry and technology. I'll hazard a guess that the majority of advancements in these fields are attributed to men. Men have access to the environment in which to generate innovation. It's still the same today. The board of a business is still largely populated with men. The top jobs in governments, banking, technical advisors etc are largely taken up by men. These are the people who are given the time and training/development to generate innovation/problem solve/come up with new methods. I'd also guess that the majority of people who describe themselves as "inventors" are men, too.

I have never found this to be true. Perhaps, like so much, it has to do with where one lives. Some men have been irked by my intelligence because I was smarter then them, but never I have encountered a man I found intelligent (as opposed to a know-it-all who has to be right regardless of the facts) who did not appreciate an intelligent woman. Valyraen, for example, doesn't care about what body houses the brain, but the brain must be big and sexy.

A demographically typical man tends to look for a woman within 1σ of his own intelligence, though there are certainly exceptions. You might want to have a look at Personality Project, the people working with the Big 5 personality index. I suspect similar Openness metrics are of greater importance than the actual intelligence; bear in mind that intelligence has a moderately strong positive correlation to Openness on standardized tests. The other traits are more complementary, I think.

My nephandi is about 1σ above average, I am most likely in the 2-3σ above average range (I'm unlikely to be above 3σ above, I think, but 2σ is established). But we are within less than 1σ of each other with regard to the Openness metric on the Big 5 index, as I recall. Last time I did it, having lost the file with my old scores in it, a quick run through the test indicated about 97th percentile on the Openness metric.

I find it's very hard to be with someone who scores low on this one, but I can deal with virtually any level of intelligence, as such, even if I have a vague preference for someone closely matched or above me for conversation.

Well most of that is explained by the fact that men still usually get more mental stimuli. They take longer educations and such, it is still more expected of a women to be a housewife or a nurse and a man to take a long enducation.

In adition, men tend to be better whit math than woman and most IQ tests have many math questions, this do not mean that men are smarter, or better, but that they are often better wit numbers while women are better whit osical intereactions.

Such statistics as you show is not really worth much, as yes they show women ahve a slightly lower IQ on general, but basically that means nothing, being good at math is not everything.

It doesn't really matter, anyway. Asians have 15 pts higher on average, and Africans 15 pts lower on average. There's smart Asians, and stupid Asians, same thing for Africans. That's how statistics work. These things say something about an aggregate, not about the individuals in question. If a difference is 15 pts or more, it can be used for statistics, but it is still useless in making assumptions about individuals. Who even cares if there's a 4 pt average difference? TV still makes a bigger impact than gender.

The bottom line is, an individual is best understood as such, rather than as an instance of the average of their demographic.

You say it doesnt matter but I beg to differ. Zimbabwe is a perfect example of what can go wrong. If the situation there were only true of one African nation then Ok maybe thats an aberration. But no, its the norm.

Do you think the Zimbabweans are better off under Robert Mugabe than they were under the last white regime.
The answer as a loud mind blowing NO.

I never said I devalue someone based on their smarts, or that someone with a 124 IQ for example shouldn't date someone with a 120 IQ regardless of which gender is which.  I'm talking about what this means about society overall.

In addition to the iq I quoted earlier, I have been self employed for the last 10 years, am the only breadwinner due to my husbands illness since 2001, and he watches 3 grand ums during the week so our married children dont have to pay child care and I pay for their food while they are here to.

My best friend is the CFO of an internet investor relations company and pulls down $85,000 plus bonuses and works out of her house except for quarterly meetings in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Another women breeds purebred dogs and averages $5,000 a month between that and the other business venture she owns and operates.

I say this while also stating that is a large statistical portion of whom I call friends versus acquaintances.

Oh, and the other two are non married and without partners, one divorced (and in her 30's by the way), and the other not in a relationship at this time either.

Long story short, in my circle of friends, none are disadvantaged outside of their home or work, and I daresay have more in earnings than a lot of males.  They also as you can see, are paid by what they KNOW, not what they do........as am I.

OMG,, for a few moments earlier, you made coherent statements and I thought wow, great!!  Then you go and make a comment like that that belies your supposed upper IQ, by making just as generalized comments as the OP.  None of the men I know or hang out with as friends want a stupid woman, and would laugh and dissappear if they had a silent, stupid lump of wood trying to be in a relationship, friendship or otherwise. 


To another poster earlier; maybe that is why you get the idea that 50% of men cheat?? Because they are attached to the stupid ones that dbg seems to think most want??

I agree with you, my husband is intelligent.  I also had a lot of fun times, between my two marriages(8 years).. While they were not all genius level, none had "low" intelligence and were able to take care of job applications and much more. 

I have found both for friends and playmates/lovers/spouses, all have seemed to value my intelligence, and each could definitely "hold their own" in an conversation we had about any subject.  I will also add that I reside in the proverbial bible belt of Alabama, where jokes are made all the time about the local educational level.

Men tend to yield to female judgement? I suppose it's more the culture than a species-wide truth you're looking at.

And, hey. While it may not be the best of ideas to generalize deeply down the gender line, you are free to explore such generalizations, including their pros and cons. Concerns for the reprocutions of such inquary should not deter one from making it when such reprocutions are avoidable. (In other words- some people were bashing you for suggesting women are inferior when you're a heterosexual male. Screw it. You have these thoughts, it's good you vocalized them. If your ideas are true, then screw it if it annoys people. If they're not, vocalizing them will help you to understand why they're not, leading to increased understanding. Accepting something on the basis of "let's not talk about it, you'll get less pussy over the Internet" is a horrid compromise.)

For women to list how intelligent they are or believe themselves to be doesnt really influence the argument one way or the other except perhaps to show that they refuse to confront the point being made. There exists sufficient spread of brain power within the sexes that those who search for a partner have a good chance of finding one who fits the criteria that are set.

The point is that high level intelligence as judged by achievement is skewed towards men and I understand, though cannot quote, that intelligence tests support this observation.
Even if IQ tests did not support this I would still believe it to be true and look for flaws in the tests.
I do not believe I am particularly intelligent and I am certain I have met Women who are more intelligent than me.

As for Zimbabwe and Africa in general perhaps that situation is best left alone seeing as how controversial it is, but shouldn't be. Not facing facts will never help the starving masses there. To take a viable successfull country like Zimbabwe and in 20 odd years ruin it sends a clear message....to me anyway.

for someone with supposedly greater IQ than me, you should know this statistic, 50% of all men cheat and 33% of all women...    if you know the facts more accurately than me, please don't confuse me with the facts.  lol

A couple of thoughts.  

1.There are volumes of studies indicating that human brain size (absent deformity) has ABSOLUTELY NO RELATIONSHIP to any empirical measure of intelligence. NONE. Einstein's brain was anatomically pretty average, at least within our ability to test its structure.

2. Women may score lower on IQ tests, on average. Male and female brains are structurally somewhat differently. Men may be better at purely anaytical tasks- women have better communication between the brain's hemispheres and are somewhat more socially facile. They also have better command of language. At the end of the day, the only thing IQ tests actually measure is how good you are at taking an IQ test. Functional intelligence is much more difficult to define, much less measure. In my estimation, there's no discernable difference between the sexes.
