I know a few couples that have in the bdsm l/s for a long time and are still married. I am guessing that is few and far between? I am talking about being together for 20 years or more.

It all depends upon what you're comparing.

If you're comparing lifestyle collared relationships to vanilla marriages, then the vanilla marriages last plenty longer on average. If you're comparing collared relationships to vanilla dating, then they're about the same. And if you're comparing married/collared relationships to vanilla marriages, they're about the same as well.

Bottom line is that, as it relates to length of commitment, lifestyle relationships are no different than vanilla relationships. So long as you're comparing apples and apples.

personally, all my vanilla (while kinky, still vanilla) relationships lasted longer than any of my D/s relationships

um....methinks any relationship of any sort stands the same as any other if the people in said relationship...since we are who we are regardless of our "BDSM status". For example if you are not a communicator by nature being "kinky" isn't going to change that so your relationships will go sans good communication no matter what.
