Yes, he already had 3 MVP awards, and yes, he was a sure Hall of Famer. But 500 HR's? I don't follow the math. He started taking steroids in early 1999, right after the '98 season, when he thought he had a glorious year, and everyone was talking about McGwire and Sosa. This has been well-documented. It's what he told Ken Griffey, Jr., who thought he was making a mistake. And after 1998, Bonds had 411 HR's. I'm sure he'd still have over 500 HR'S NOW, but he didn't have anywhere near 500 then. (It explains why he missed so many games in 1999, by the way: he wasn't used to the steroids yet, and kept injuring himself overtraining.) quote:
ORIGINAL: njjohnny2007 maybe he whouldnt have broken the record but if you look at his stats before the roids he had over 500 homeruns and 3 mvp awards. The same of it is he was already a hall of famer at that point if he never played again. Wartch out for ken griffey at 587homers and 2500+ hits another sure hall of famer.
