First of all, no offense meant to HP fans, because I totally understand how somebody could really get into it...  It's got all the right elements, but for me... it just falls flat.  I don't know why.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only person on the planet who, for some reason, the magic of HP just seems to have passed him by.  I don't know what it is.  I never fall asleep in movies, and I *fell asleep* in the 2nd HP movie.  I couldn't even finish the first HP book and it was given to me *for free*.

And it's not even the genre, I loved all the LOTR stuff.  And I usually love stories with mythological overtones and all the symbolism and all of that, but for some reason HP just leaves me cold.

Anybody else a member of Not-Too-Terrifically-Impressed-With-Harry-Potter-Anonymous?

I'm immune: the hype put me off it completely. Add that to the fact that there is so much beautiful literature to catch up with... I have little time to waste on average prose.

Totally immune. No desire at all. Books, I'll read my own again, movies, I'll run an old Bugs Bunny cartoon. Have no interest in any of this new shit.

Oh, And there was light... and her finger was on the switch.

Ahh yes, the one a Man had installed.

Pollux, thank you for this thread.
I have seen most of the HP movies, but I have yet to ever stand in a long line or
bothered to read the books.
The movies are fairly entertaining, but I am certainly immune to the spell.

Yeah, me neither.
It's the same as that Star Wars-  StarTrekie-Global Warming stuff.
When you see people lined up down the streets with costumes on or at "conventions" they lose me.
Some people really get "into" that stuff though, maybe a little "too much."
I can see a guy in a Star Wars costume walking down a dark ally and confronted by a mugger.
"Don't try it! I'm Orkiln of the Galaxy Fredoh! I have a light sabre!"
Mugger; "Well Trick or Treat Spaceman now hand over your wallet ASSHOLE!"
That said, fantasy is a good thing as long as it doesn't take over your life.

No interest in the story whatsoever.  It's rather dull, bland, and full of plot holes.

popeye, you have invoked a memory of one of my favorite real life stories.

Tony is a very tough Polack, one night at the ATM a mugger comes up "I'll take that money", Tony replied "You have a gun ?". The guy said "No", he asks "Do you have a knife ?" the guy said "No".

Tony then took HIS money, after pounding his face in.

I'm glad they met.

When my son found interest in the beginning, i tagged along for the ride.
His interest waned after a couple of books and movies, probably due
to the fact that he could never get that broom off the ground.

i simply went back to reading and viewing porn, the true magic of the ages.

Count me in. Although I agree it's been great for encouraging kids to read and even some adults. I just couldn't get into it. There is a Borders on my way home from the restaurant. I couldn't believe the lines and people in costume there waiting to get their pre-orders at 2am.

I joined the I don't care for HP Club from the beginning.  I am not into witchcraft and satanic things which I believe HP is full of.  I have lots of friends and co-workers that are on the same plane as I am.....just don't care for it.

I don't mind the genre -- witchcraft & satanic themes don't bother me, just for some reason this version of the story just...I dunno.  Falls flat for me.  Like Bita said, maybe I'm just a muggle...

LOL, SDFem, they were actually wearing costumes lined up at 0200?
Kind of makes one wonder who those people will vote for or even IF they'll vote?
"Hey Big furry guy, who you going to vote for in the Presidential election?"
Big furry guy; "Why the Goddess and Ruler of the Galaxy FREEBON Hillary Clinton of course!"
"Why her?"
Big furry guy; "Because I like blond hair."

For those that do not read the books but are curious as to how it turned out anyhow:

Completely immune here.  Haven't read any of them or seen any of the movies.  Don't plan to, couldn't care less about any of it.
