Yeah, he's been sleeping in my bedroom under my dresser.
My other cat "Bubba" always comes in within 5 minutes of me going to bed for a snuggle and a nap.
And, he usually wakes me up in the mornings.
The kitten is making progress everyday, wandering further and checking out the condo.
He's cute as shit when he runs.

Got out of the shower, reached down on the floor for a clean shirt from clean laundry that I'd folded and stacked on the floor almost put on a shirt and smelled cat piss!
I found all kind of "landmines" mixed in with the CLEAN laundry too!
Nice to have your own washer and dryer!
I put the cat litter box over there with the landmines that I picked out of the laundry.
Did I do the right thing?
How do I get him to use the litterbox?
I have two of them now, one for Bubba, one for the kitty.

Status: offline 		New kittens are often intimidated by an older cat (especially a male) and won't use that litter box. So yes, you did the right thing by offering an addition option--afterall when you gotta go, you gotta go. Try a landmine offering in the box (the kitten's) and gently place him in the box off and on during the day and explain this is HIS personal space. Visualize what you want the kitten to do as animals often pick up their owner's visual images and talk to the little guy about going there.

He'll get it, be patient, it's much like potty training a toddler. I bet his mom told him about proper cat manners like scratching and covering his business so he'll figure it out. Above all, stay positive and know that as his new parent and owner you are teaching him the societal niceties of living in a human/feline household.

I've had 10 to 20 cats for most of my life. I am known as the cat lady/midwife that lives at the end of the road--way way out in the country.

The thing is, I still can't get near him yet to pick him up!
He see's me comming and he bolts!
Only had him for 1 week.

I'm not an expert but I'm going through the same exact thing. I ended up giving the kitten the computer room and it worked. during the day when I'm awake I leave the door open and she wanders around a little and the other cat is getting used to her too now.

Keep him confined in a smaller area.  I keep a large metal cage I use to introduce and train any new critters into my home.  Once he uses the litter-box religiously, open the door so  he has a place of his own to go back to do his business.  He just has too much room right now.

Sorry Lotus, but I would nix the cage idea, at this point that would really freak him out.
 
Sometimes new cats will do this kind of shit(pun intended) if they want to try and mark a territory, is he neutered, Popeye? Is Bubba?
 
This is something you will have to do if they are both males, because they will spray to mark and he will challenge Bubba for the Alpha spot in the house. Unfortunately males should not be neutered until they are 6 months or older.
 
This problem may be that Bubba is putting out vibes that the litter box is His, using 2 is a great idea and put them on either ends of the house so each are likely to be able to get a chance to use one without the other knowing.

Sorry Missy.  I stand by my advice.  The crate/cage I use is a large one which is open and placed in an area where the pet can view what is going on but still have security. Mine is large enough to accommodate a bed, litter box and bedding.  36"
 
You need to view the world from the animal's standpoint.  This is a little guy in a big place with another cat  lurking around.  If he needs to go to the bathroom, he's going to pick what is quick and available.  If he has a spot he knows is safe- he'll return there to take care of his needs.  I'm sure Popeye will try all our suggestions and let us know what worked :)

When I put kitten food in the dish for him my other cat Bubba goes over and starts eating it shit there he goes again!

How do I keep Bubba from eating the kittens food?

most cats love bird meat.

While he is under the dresser let him see you eating chicken and every now and so often toss a piece out to him.

when i was a kis it took me nearly a month to get a wild cat to the point i could actulally just touch it.

its just checking you out when it figures out where the food comes from it will very slowly come around all on its own.. 

otherwise its a lot of work to get them to trust you before thgeir time if you know what i mean.  its just ewasier to let him do what he wants then call him and toss out a chuck of whatever he "really" liokes to eat but never enough to fill him so he wont eat the boring vcat food LOL

Yet a another good reason for my idea.  Remember, I'm not talkingabout putting the kitten in isolation, this is why I use an open crate of  some size. They can see each other without getting into a tussel and YOU can get some piece of mimd during this time.  It only takes about a week to get things in order.

Status: offline 		Well, as far as the pissing on stuff is concerned, I encountered that problem recently.

We have two kitties. One is about 9 months old and the other is 2 1/2. When one started marking on stuff, we figured it was the littler box. Despite having two! So, we put out the $100 and got an electric one that has a motor and a sensor and it tells when something has been in it and then 10 minutes later is cleans it itself! It's pretty incredible. Less work for me and NO more kitty pissing on our clothes! Some cats just want super clean bathrooms. Can ya blame them?

However, not being litter trained is another issue. I'm not sure what you're facing!

Yes, Bubba is neutered.
In the last hour the kitten's been out playing in the kitchen and living room and chased a string I had and I wadded up small pieces of paper and threw them across the kitchen floor and he chased them!
He's been out playing tonight more than ever!
I just checked the kitty box and he used it!
There was one of my socks in it though! Could this be one of those "superkitties" that wipes their butts?

Status: offline 		I have 3 cats, and to keep the dominant cat from chasing the others away from the food, I just put out one more food dish than I have cats. Three cats, four food dishes. No way can the Big Meow gaurd all of them, and the others love to make a game of dashing from dish to dish just to keep him jumping trying to cover all the dishes. You might try putting food in 3 dishes, if you can't feed them in separate rooms.

As to the laundry as toilet problem, yeah, had that, too. It was a tough one to deal with. After trying multiple other things with the litter boxes, changing litter type, etc, it really just seemed to boil down to the fact that the cats found doing their business on soft, nice smelling cloth was more comfy than squatting on kitty litter. I can sort of see their reasoning there. The only thing that worked was to keep a covered hamper for the dirty clothes, and keep the clean clothes put away or set in a basket on top of the dryer. None of the kitties really seemed to want to go that high to do their business. A word of caution.......watch out for your bed. Your sheets and comforters make very attractive rest areas, too. One kitten was banished outside for life, due to this. My tolerance only goes so far.

Heritic, yes, I'm starting to learn that and other people have mentioned it too.
I think we're making progress each day!
He'll be a good buddy for Bubba to have to play with instead of laying around all the time and being by himself although Bubba likes to sit here by me and we wrestle every once in a while.

Status: offline 		LOL...eventually the two of you will work it out.  Sounds like he is making progress having his own space, food & water, litter box, etc.  Whenever you have multiple animals the trick is to feed them at the same time but in different locations.
And no doubt they will have some jealousy and territorial "issues".

Status: offline 		Give the furball time.  My cat took several weeks to start roaming freely when I first brought her home.  It kind of sounds like it only sees the couch as it's territory.  Putting it in a room away from the other cats might speed up the process a little.
