Well, you need to learn more about other cultures.
For example, you will get much better service if you realize that the 'cha' and the 'tea' are silent, and just refer to everyone as 'Niqua...[8|]

We live in a country where political correctness has gone somewhat awry....I run with a fairly diverse crowd...It usually is just easier and quicker when trying to bring a person to light in a conversation to describe ther ethnicity....If I'm hanging out with one of my friends regardless of ethnicity ( but since the topic always seems to boil down to black and white we will assume that my friend is black)  this is how our conversation would go I would say, "You know that guy, John, who hangs out down by so and so...I saw him the other day." My friend might say, "Who?"  I would continue on, "He's about six feet tall, medium build, nice guy. Always talks about his place down in Florida." My friend who is black might say..."Oh you mean that black dude."  ...I would respond..."Yeah, that's him."

Sometimes it is just easier to say that white guy or fillipino or whatever...It depends on what is in your heart....It often is just quicker to incorporate the ethnicity of the person you are eluding to into the discussion...It's really no big fucking deal.

Real quickly cuz I have to go to work.  What it boils down to and why I and so many others get offended that race is used to describe is that Black People for the most part have been looked at as inhuman/subhuman for so long that we desire to be looked at as human before anything else.  Your example of how you would describe was excellent...the clairfication was  probably needed to solidify the description.  I have no problem with that.  It's when someone says, "I have black friends" to prove some kind of non-prejudicial point or when race is the first descriptor used.

I'm not sure why?  I might say that as a means of explaining that I am "color blind" to the outside of a person and that to me only the inside of a person matters.

If it is part of an explanation about your colorblindness, then that is a whole different ballgame.  However, as I said....when it is used to prove some non-prejudicial point or as the first descriptor used, yes it is offensive.  If they are your friend, why does it matter what color their skin is?  It only matters that they are your friend.  If someone can't place them without the skin color being used, then of course use it.

Najackcharmer, you have already made statements to the fact that you are colorblind and that you don't see skin color.  However, there are those that don't subscribe to the same thinking.  They say they are not prejudice, however their actions speak louder than their words.  These are the people I am referring to.  Those who say they are not prejudice but the first thing that comes out of their mouths is, " That mexican...., that black...., that indian.... etc....  They say they are only using that to describe....My point is, is there nothing else about that person you can use to describe....How about their name if you know it.  If you don't know their name, something else that they have done that would describe them....but to use their race initially is a form of racism....It says that is the first thing you notice about a person....And that you probably didn't notice the person at all.
