This discussion has been fascinating. As a multiracial dom, most of my subs over the past thirty years have been non-black. Although I prefer black women, I have not been able to find many interested in BDSM, especially ones who would be interested in subbing.

Maybe we should form an Interracial Online Group?

mnottertail -> RE: More minorities in the lifstyle (7/27/2007 10:45:25 AM)

black female subs/slaves are as rare as gravitron sightings.

Dare I ask what a gravitron is?

mnottertail -> RE: More minorities in the lifstyle (7/27/2007 10:50:13 AM)

if you don't know, it would right there indicate a rarity, would it not love?

One thing to to keep in mind regarding Black Beat is that there are several chapters in various regions of the United States including in the states of California, New Jersey, New Yourk and Texas. But even so, believe me when I say there are quite a few POCs who are into the lifestyle, though because of their professions, religous beliefs or what have you, they tend to shy away from public events, whether it is hosted by blacks or non-blacks. Just my humble opinion and observation.

Oh hell Ron, I thought it was either something from science fiction ( Star Trek or Wars-ish ), or that I was just more stupid than I previously thought.

I am going with B then huh?

While I'm not the smartest apple in the bunch (not sure of the definition of gravitron) I am not sure I'd say black female subs and slaves are rare.  They may not be as easy to find but I've met a few.

I too find this thread facinating and it's certainly has motivated me and my grrl to seriously consider attending BlackBeat.  For years, I've resisted attending events for specific races including our local munch here that is primarily for blacks and those who love them, this is based on the reserved racism I see from time to time in the black community (note: I said black community and not the black BDSM community).  But I am seriously rethinking that because I am very proud of my heritage. I think my way of thinking has been always been about inclusion (regardless of race, sexual orientation and especailly size).  I think that my way of thinking has made me miss out on things and people within in my own cultural background that I may have enjoyed.

mnottertail -> RE: More minorities in the lifstyle (7/27/2007 11:42:50 AM)

I meant for white dominants, for black dominants they are less rare.

I can only talk about it from the side of the street I inhabit.

ELUSIVE1 -> RE: More minorities in the lifstyle (7/27/2007 1:00:12 PM)

maybe it is my location (s/e states) but there is plenty of racial and ethnic diversity in lifestyle groups here...there is black lifestyle group here in the queen city with several members of different races...the first female I ever submitted to was Puerto Rican...and anyone who has ever been to any lifestyle events in Atlanta would tell you the racial divide is almost non-existent...

WhiplashSmile -> RE: More minorities in the lifstyle (7/28/2007 8:14:52 AM)

What a fucked up question of sorts here.  I wish one day people would wake up and everybody be blind to color, race and background.

There are plenty of people from all walks of life that are into BDSM, all different races are involved.  It's a shame that this Post deals with racism.  BDSM should not be about racism. as with many things in life.  It terms of who is open and involved in BDSM communities, this is a matter of person endevor and choice.

Racial movements that focus specifically target a race, actually end up promoting racism.   How about the FOR EVERY RACE movement to happen in America.

Now, us people in Amercia don't hold the exclusive on racism!  It happens in China, Russia, Hell even Peutro Rico itself.

Please rethink your thoughts on this, about trying not to think in any racial terms.  This would make the world a much better place, if everybody could.

Now some people simply are not attracted to people of certain races, I can't find fault with that.  Hell, I have my own personal tastes down to the toothpast and pop I drink.  Everybody has something called preferences, not to be confused with hatred for a race.

When you step back, think about the world as whole!  I'm certain, you'll see people of all races involved in BDSM.   You need to think past the demographic or local you are living in.   You need to see past your doorstep, to see the world for what it really is.

gooddogbenji -> RE: More minorities in the lifstyle (7/28/2007 8:28:58 AM)

I disagree.  Not seeing colour would be an interesting way of sidestepping racism, in the same way that clearcutting is a great way to prevent trees from growing too closely together.

Beating racism aint about no races existing, it's about enough people tolerating various races, cultures, and religions.  And that requires tolerance of their attitudes, food, and habits.  And that requires not having all the answers on your own.  And that requires humility and a drive to learn.

Fuck it.  Too much work.  Burn them all, say I.

I dont think its a fucked up question at all...especially when it comes to M/S relationships.

On a personal level, I really dont care. My partners have been from a variety of different ethnic groups...the relationships that didnt work out had nothing to do with skin color, but because of cultural differencesn and enviroments we were raised in...we simply had nothing in common.

But...as much as we like to quote the "politically correct" stuff...there was a period of time in American history where rich white plantation owners had black slaves picking cotton.

Personally, I would find it very hard to beleive if someone said that a "white Master, black slave" dynamic didnt have serious potential to come with some rounds loading in the chamber.

Hi im a mature 22 yr old that has been seriously in the lifestyle for almost 2 yrs. While I enjoy playing with all races and prefer playing with whites I always wonder how to get more minorities involved  into alternative lifestyles.  I would love to hear everyones opnion on this.   Of course im excluding blk males because i dont consider them minorities in the lifestyle.

Honestly you shouldn't exclude anyone.  Black Males are very underrepresented in the lifestyle.  I find it difficult to find much less relate to Black Male submissives simply because they don't present themselves to be submissive to me.  Yet when they are serving a white DOMME, they tend to let it all go.

I am glad to see so many people are going to BLACK BEAT (including me)  However I do need to clarify one thing.  There are only a couple hundred people registered and not all of them are of the traditional "minority classes"  some of of the new "minority class"  white people.  Although the majority of people there will be black....there will be several races represented.

www.blackbeatinc.org

It is a 3 day conference.  However, they are offering day passes and full conference registration until Aug 6, 2007...after that they will not be taking any more registrations or day pass requests.  If your interest is piqued, go to the website and read what is going to go on.

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: More minorities in the lifestyle (7/28/2007 1:11:03 PM)

i think this comes from history more then anything. While i do agree with alot that has been said think its fear of how to treat them or to interact because of the past.. i have always set a standards you treat me with respect i will you no matter what race. after all it was the American Indian who has been persecuted the most in our country not alot of D's of them either...

But I'd briefly ask, is that in stark contrast to the numbers of these minorities you see in your day to day life?
Stephan

Just seconding what LH said, my personal view is that minorities are definitely under-represented at the munches where I live.

...Whiplash...I don't think that this post deals with racism or that we would be better  if we were blind to colour.  I feel acknowledging and celebrating our diversity is healthy and important. [:)]

www.blackbeatinc.org

I clicked on .......I was immediately greeted by some cheesy "jam" while I perused the site....The only thing missing was the Cosby kids dancing around.

I can just imagine what would happen if I were to attend......(The announcer of blackbeat clears his throat and begins speaking in a deep resonating voice....Similar to that of Barry White)  And now you sexy ladies and gentleman....Please turn to the middle stage where Master DeMarcus along with his lovely slaves, Shiffona and LaSheena, will be performing the beautiful art of Shibari to the soft and soulful musical stylings of Luther.....

I'm in.

* Thinks about *

Interesting issues answers and prospective...... [:D]

blkstick26 good question.. always ask questions and seek answers

I'm only going to deal with specific issues since I'm pressed for time.

In my view.. that's my personal delusion which may not be yours.... Black males ARE a minority in the public BDSM scene pan-sexual or heterosexual. Things have improved over the years however when I do go to National events I'm one of only a handful of blacks or people of color period.  The only exception to this is Black Beat. In the circles I travel usually I am the only Black as a rule and I meet few Black females in the public scene. Doesn't mean they don't exist just not in my immediate personal life sphere.

It is as it is I don't let it bother me.

There are a lot of reasons why so few "non whites" one being in the USA were only 12 % of the total population to start with and then name your reason from there.

As for race issues,  [:)] well anyone who knows me knows .. "I be uppity" so if you got a problem with an articulate, educated, intelligent 6 foot Black male too freeking bad it's your problem and deal with it.

Yes I so have an attitude *laugh*

lol... My Master's been accused of that before - with about the same reaction from him. After a while, it's just so ridiculous that it's funny.

To me, not seeing color is a convoluted way of embracing racism, all the while proclaiming "I'm not prejudiced". To not see someone means they don't exist. They are, in effect, invisible. I'd rather celebrate people's heritage whatever their heritage may be.

I can be proud of the influence of my ancestors and I can celebrate the influences of my Master's ancestors, and I can do both without having to denigrate or make invisible either of our heritages and cultures.

We keep on learning more and more of each other's background. It's interesting as all get out to me.

juliet
