BIllCT -> Question How Long? (7/30/2007 2:38:31 PM)

How Long should two people who get along well and like each other a lot online wait before they should meet in person and see if any chemistry or interest is there?

Once you have come to the point of deciding you WANT to meet offline, no more than two months.

Unless you're talking about someone off being deployed, there's no reason two financially stable, independent adults cannot plan and make a visit to eachother within two months.  If you want to make it happen, you will.

Most people gloss over the fact that the first meeting is like a template for the relationship, at least the first stage of it.  How hard it is to get together, how long it takes, what time you spent together, what you do DURING that time- that is a very good indicator of how the relationship will be overall.  Specially if it's a long distance meeting.  You should take that first meeting into serious account when deciding if this is what you want for your life in the long term.

Of course, I don't think anyone should make any serious commitments for the first six months of exploration anyway.  But no one ever listens to that.

If your in the same city/state? No more then a two weeks. Out of state but in continental country, two months.

katie978 -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 3:49:26 PM)

I think they should meet as soon as both has determined that the other isn't a psychopath and they have a chance of having chemistry together. You can only learn so much about a person online, the real-life meeting is when the "getting to know you" really starts.

As long as it takes for all their background checks to come in.

If you get along and you like each other, what is stopping you from meeting?

Littlepita -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 4:55:21 PM)

We waited 10 LONG months!! I would recommend meeting as soon as possible.

earthycouple -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 5:01:05 PM)

I'm a fan of as soon as you feel you want to meet.

Why wait if you feel you might like each other?

asubmissiveheart -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 5:18:06 PM)

Most people seem to wait a few weeks, sometimes sooner if you live in the same area.

chey -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 5:30:47 PM)

If someone is local and not against exchanging information I have never had a problem meeting them for coffee, lunch or dinner rather quickly. I don't always meet someone with the idea that we are going to find romance. But then I really enjoy getting to know the people I talk to online. So I have waited as little as a couple of weeks and as long as 7 years (lol...okay so that one is a long story! But I FINALLY met some long time online friends from a message board and developed a handful of wonderful lasting r/t friendships).

In the case of someone I am interested in though I like to meet at least in the first couple of months. There have been many times I have talked to someone online and the phone for a few months and thought I really had a chemistry with them only to meet face to face and feel no spark whatsoever! I have also meet men who I really had my doubts as to whether or not we would hit it off and found we were both very connected, so you just never know until you are able to interact with a person. Body language and the expression in their eyes can be a beautiful thing!

classykindasassy -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 7:32:05 PM)

A face-to-face public meet is not a big deal. Dragging the preliminaries out is a waste of time in my book. I know within a couple of weeks if I want to meet someone and I just as soon not drag it out. Find out if chemistry is for real or just your imagination. It's only coffee for God's sake. Not a contract. Then you know if any more contact is in order.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Question How Long? (7/30/2007 9:12:21 PM)

I think people usually end up waiting too long.

slaveofKaos -> RE: Question How Long? (7/31/2007 1:34:29 AM)

I don't think there is a set amount of time I believe it all has to do with comfort. If one of you is ready before the other then you have to decide if it is worth it to you wait for the other person. If your not willing to wait then move on and if you are who knows when you finally meet you may have found a great match.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Question How Long? (7/31/2007 1:37:52 AM)

for me I expect to meet in say about 2 weeks time, sometimes I've talked to someone all day then met them the very day, sometimes I haven't met people ever that I was talking to, because they kept having reasons why it couldn't be the time they said, one time it was work, another time a family emergency, and then never heard from him again.

bottom line is it depends on each and every individual.

When you "both" feel you are ready to take the chat to the face to face level.

I've seen a sub be "convinced" to meet someone when she clearly wasnt ready for it and it wasnt a good outcome.

I like to go into any meeting along the lines, its only having a cup of coffee, just easier to do the emotes face to face....

came4U -> RE: Question How Long? (7/31/2007 7:48:20 AM)

as long as it takes for the credit card to be swiped at the front desk. lol.

dunno, at least 3 months? just guessin. The only people I met off the internet, it took up to 2 years.  But, they were non-kinksters.

MsSonnetMarwood -> RE: Question How Long? (7/31/2007 8:49:53 AM)

If I'm going to meet someone from online (other than a casual chat friend), I expect to meet within a month of first contact, just for something simple like coffee or lunch.  I take my time getting to know someone, but that's best done face to face and not online.

Jinger -> RE: Question How Long? (7/31/2007 8:59:00 AM)

Ha, I was about to list the length of my penis. I guess it's because all us young subs are jumpy and oversexed.
Clearly.

I think it depends on the location of said parties, and the level of trust a sub/Domme/Dom has. Me? I'm very untrusting because I've been traumatized a couple times by on and offline stalkers. However, if say I met a Domme in the immediate area, I would try to meet up post-hast (given that we could talk well online).

Otherwise it's a huge gamble, because if I'm going to spend upwards of 100 bucks on a bus ticket to visit someone, they better the hell be worth it. So in that case I always take my time getting to know that person.
