ORIGINAL: daddysprop247 as a slave, i think the "slaveBay" idea could really work. mostly as a means to loan, rent, or trade for services, but the options of buying and selling could be available as well. money would change hands discreetly, except in the cases of trades. I think so, too, and I've been giving thought to at least writing the software and such to play with the idea. Before I could do anything more serious about it, though, I'd need someone to do the webdesign and such. Hosting could probably be in the Netherlands or in Japan, where there are (IIRC) no legal issues with this kind of activity. Elsewhere, it is a legally gray zone. Anyway, a pretty cool idea, in my opinion. I agree that any money can be handled in the usual ways, or personally. For instance, the slave can get the money before returning, in the case of loaning or renting. Such a site could work off the same kind of reputation system as eBay uses, which tends to do a good job of tracking who is serious and who is not. But one needs to add the CYA- and safety-measure of having some means of validation or identification. That could either be in the form of existing members inviting new ones and vouching for them, or by using regular verification via conventional verification. The former is preferrable in many ways, I think, as it means there is no central registry of identities, but if there is a legal issue, it still isn't a big problem to find the identity, as the person vouching for them has it (or is legally culpable for misrepresenting them). Such a system gives some protection against predators by providing detection (there is a record of the transaction) and response (one can identify a perpetrator). In any case, I like the idea.
