Ladies,
Does how a fellow carries himself here in the forums (or on the boards of other sites) have any bearing on your consideration of him if he were to approach you with personal interest?

Oh yes. I read all the forum posts of those who approach me on my other sn and attitude is everything. If I see someone who is polite, seems as if they are on the same page (or at least owns the same book) as I do, that's a plus. Piss poor, defensive, making excuses, failing to take responsibility for their behavior .. all that is buh bye.

Interesting -- 100% respond yes it's a factor.  So I wonder what the motive of a guy on here would be if he just acts like a creep? I mean, what's the point?  Or do they just not think about that when they post?

then again some people just don't care how they come across, or they have a partner so they're not worried about pleasing any one but number one.

I can't argue with the first half of that sentence, but the second half is specious given the context of the OP. Someone exhibiting ill behavior on the boards, then approaching someone for a relationship on the other side would point much more to them not having a partner. But yeah, some people just don't care how they come across.

I call them drama queens.

Yes, shame on me LOL

I mean, I'd like to think that I've got the snark down to a science (although Domiguy and Stef have me beat by a longshot) but that's sarcasm for the sake of sarcasm because there's really nothing else to be had.  But in the long run, watching someone post over and over again and it's nothing but "mess"......or picking fights.....or being outwardly disrespectful???

I get that just because he's submissive doesn't mean that he's submissive nor does he need to "pay respect" to everyone, but jeez, demonstrate that you're at least capable of it from time to time!

I have to admit I havent spoken to anyone and checked their message history. But then Ive not been looking for someone special.  if I was on the search for someone for me then I would agree yes definatly.  I never even realised there was a feature that allowed you to look at a persons post lol till a few months ago.  Ive made a couple of online friends who have mesaged me sayin ohh I saw a post you did and felt the same and thought I would say hi and they were both male so I reakon its more important than I first thought.

Yes, absolutely it does.  I often use the forums and block people due to their behavior here.  If someone contacts me and I see bad behavior in their post history I am very likely to drop them immediately from consideration.

And, of course, the opposite if they've made excellent or many good-spirited posts... It makes me much more likely to consider them to begin with.

Absolutely; every bit as much as HOW he might first contact me; one liners don't get responses, nor...generally...do very poorly spelled notes or comments with horrible grammatical mistakes. 
 
I am a very poor speller…and most of the time I manage quite well here, I think.  But, I check my spelling!  LOL   The occasional to/too or right/write slip by, in spite of my knowing better; so I do not expect perfection in others, either.
 
Still, I cannot stand bullies or people who will not concede others may have a difference of opinion.  Some act like being right somehow makes them taller.  Ugg   Okay, I’m as tenacious as they come (especially since my first instinct is I must have ‘said it wrong’, but most of the time I do try to be polite and suggest this is my opinion. 
 
Politeness counts to me; I look for it in others.
 
Great question, MisP.  In fact, one of the first things I do is look at someone's posting history.  Sadly, it is most often empty.

Edited to add:  Politeness counts to me; I look for it in others...AND I try for it in my own communications.  Sometimes, especially when an otherwise perfectly competent sounding individual does something I deem really stupid, politeness, for me, is quite a struggle!

For sure. If someone behaves immaturely here, odds are it's a character flaw that will carry over to other areas of life as well.

If they carry themselves well, odds are even if we don't see eye to eye on everything, they're probably someone I could at least chat with over coffee and not be crawling out of my skin to get away. [:D]

yesss, by fluke long ago I was curious and checked/clicked on a guy's forum history button oh boy..

I wasn't impressed with some anti-race remarks about his activities off-site, they were quite politically charged (aka he belonged to a group I find offensive), no names mentioned.  But, I did learn what I did faster than what might have never come up for ages in an conversations.  So, I am glad I did afterall and glad to be 'out' of that situation before anyone got attached.

Absolutely.  I would everything into consideration...the OP, and all of his most recent posts.  It hardly seems right to take a couple of words and base an entire opinion on it...you have to try and take the big picture.

I would say absolutely that it does.  I fully admit to being a 'prior post' checker to see if I can catch some insight on how a person conducts themselves, their opinions, and how well they can express themselves by the written word.  At times, posts on the board can be more insightful to a person's character, rather than some frilly profile they've put up (and might not even have written themselves).  I'd actually have to say I find some of the more frequent posters a lot more attractive, because I get to hear there opinions that come from the moment a topic will cross their path.

Absolutely it does.    Having said that, I admit I have said things here that I wouldn't want to have thrown at someone as a first impression, but if someone were to read my statements over time, there would some consistency in indicating what type of person I am, and a good amount of growth in the right direction (have learned more, and become less intense about unimportant BS).

So the answer is yes, the way he carries himself here will be used to evaluate the type of person he is, much in the same way a guy shouldn't spit on the floor or smack another woman before approaching me for a date.   M
