I've met alot of people who have told me how much they enjoy being a brat. However I'm trying to figure out what is it that makes someone a true brat? As in do they need to be put into their place frequently?

Brat is as subjective as "what color is that shirt, pale blue or powder blue?"

You decide for yourself what is bratty behavior and you decide if they need *ahem* "to be put in their place"

I am not sure why so many people think you can't be witty and amusing and have fun and show personality unless you're being a brat.  The most common thing I hear from brats suggests that they feel that if they aren't bratty, then they will be repressed, bland, and boring.  So perhaps they are acting out as a way to fight against being ordinary.

There may also be a taste of the "force me" in brats.  They are oh so proud and oh so strong until the ONE comes to them and somehow transforms them into a meek and obedient girl- it is only HIS true power and honor which can tame the wild beast.  It's a form of "do me" and definitely another type that can't reconcile being submissive AND being a full person.

Why adults think it's ok to act like a brat in public I have no idea.  Just because it's kinky doesn't mean it's ok to be rude.

For me, being a brat isn't a positive thing at all, and I don't associate with brats

yea...I get called a brat quite often, but I dont think I am one...I just happen to have a rather annoying sense of humor...Do I use it because I need to get "put in my place"? Nope..I know my place quite well...and its right where I am, making Sir laugh cause he likes it.

I get called a brat all the time... and I have to laugh because it's never someone who knows me, but always someone who has no idea of who I am... the best part about them calling me a brat is they are under some impression that it will get a reaction out of me... and in away they are right it does... I stop acknowledging them... is that bratty of me??? (giggles)

there's a way to become a twue brat?  damn it ...why didn't someone teach me this during the new submissive orientation class last year! is it like being a twue submissive?

but seriously - if i ever become a brat for Daddy, i should be prepared to accept the consequences of said actions.

A submissive that talks back when being instructed or reprimand is a brat and not in a good way.

A submissive that can joke, play, and playfully accept her master's foibles and weaknesses...that to me is a brat but in a good way.

The difference is the subtle recognition that master, imperfect and human though he may be, is still master; when the playing is done, his word is still law.

It can be a fine line to walk between the two....but for me I want my slaves to be at least somewhat playful...who wants to be deadly serious all the time?

That was a really great definition.  Nobody ever said having a sense of humor equals being a brat.

I am not a brat, my Master dislikes brats.
So for us, the fact that I am not a brat is working for us.
I can get all the attention that I need, without resorting
to child-like or bratty behavior.

within this House and most that she knows is served by slaves, this bratty thread is not at all acceptable and will find yourself looking for another Master/Mistress in a heart beat....
within role playing is can be allowed with a limit but being demanding of One.....with the words....I WANT.....best not happen if you are happy with your situation

I am a bit "bratty", just because I am really stubborn, egoistic as a small child, witty - and all delivered in the cutest way. I am "bratty", just because thats my personality in real life. And yes, I do need to be put in my place frequently,  but I don`t get bossy. My owner is proud and happy of me, so am I. We had a discussion especially about my bratty behaviour. I asked him if he likes it or dislikes it. And he said he loves it. Just because he loves me and knows its a part of my personality, so I am not acting out being something I am not.

Without being offensive (or trying not to be)..potential Owners are judging you by your current behavior..if you're putting off a major brat vibe, They're not going to look at you and think "oh, he'll be different when I own him", they're thinking "Okay, I'm not dealing with that" and passing you right by. As always, that's not always the case, there are Some who like brats, but if it isn't who you want to be in a relationship, it probably isn't who you should be portraying outside of one. Just something to think about...

To the OP: I'm with LA on this one, I can't stand brattiness, to me, it's an oxymoron in someone who's goal is (or is supposed to be) to make another person happy. Again, I realize there are exceptions, and if it makes people happy, go for it..just not my thing...

I find I really like the idea of being a brat in hypotheticality (is that a word?) but in real life, all I want is to be allowed to be witty and clever.  Puns, double entendres, obscure references and song lyrics are very important to me (although I do know that there is a time and place, and an inappropriate time and an inappropriate place for all those things).  I would be very unhappy if someone said "there's a place for this" and I couldn't break into singing "somewhere a place for this...."  I also like the physical sensation of being overwhelmed, but have been fine with asking for permission to struggle when I'm one my back, with him on top of me, holding my arms down.  In reality, being a brat would just detract.  I don't like dissappointing.  I don't like punishment.  I want somoene who will be proud of me.  It is just that I still like witty patter.

Damn him and his knowlage of preasure points. He can hit one spot on my wrist and I'm on my knees in half a second.

I have a personality that is (usually) bubbly, positive and upbeat. I also have a very dry sense of humour, which Master (generally) appreciates.
I don't have to 'resort' to childlike behaviour, but that is basically my personality. (think Gracie Allen, or Goldie Hawn)
He knew what I was when He met me, and doesn't want me to change. (much) *lol*

Well, I'm a self professed brat and he very much likes that. I am witty and exercise my wit, sometimes at his expense, at times when I know he'll appreciate it. His response is to tickle or spank me until I'm squirming and crying out uncle. It's a game between us. The only important thing is just like sometimes he wants to play backgammon and sometimes he wants to go mini golfing, I have to pick the right time.

The right time obviously is not when he's sitting down to do his taxes or has a four hour car repair ahead of him. Some doms are too touchy to accept a joke at their expense, and I'm not compatible with them. But I am compatible with him, and that's all that matters.

My Sir considers brats to be too high maintenance. He prefers humour that is time and place appropriate.    and thats me.
