JackM1 -> RE: Why So Many Chubby Subbies? (8/14/2007 2:42:04 PM)

i personally wouldnt call myself FAT..but i am chubby(or rather, over weight, but not so much so that i cant wear something sexy that shows a bit of skin). my being a sub has nothing to do with my weight; fact is, i like to eat. i love food, and i love food that tastes GOOOD. also, im not a very active person, i love the gym when im in it, but to get myself to the gym can be a real pain in the you-know-what. i feel like its unfair to catagorize everyone in the "lazy, poor diet, disease, no self controle" groups...what about those of us who just love food? i dont have a particularly poor diet, its actually filled with some pretty good food, but im a chocolate fiend and i love different cultural foods which are not always the healthiest options. also, let us not forget that not all of us are made to be small. i, myself, was never a small person(forgetting my height ^_~) and i find that, though im still very young, that as i get older its harder and harder to break out of old habits that i had when i was a child(namely, eating big portions, having food late during the day before bed, sugar sugar sugar, a dislike for all cooked and most raw veggies). nooned every thinks about those things, but they contribute a LOT to how and what you eat as an adult. you cant just say to yourself one day "im never going to touch anything fried, or made out of chocolate again. and you know what, salt is out of here too". its POSSIBLE, dont get me wrong, but from personal experience its a very uphill battle. add that you may already be over weight by that point, and you are almost guarenteed to stay heavy, or get heavy again, for the rest of your life. to the origional question, yes, there are many overweight subs...but take a look at the people you work with, or just random people on the street. obesity is an epidemic in this country, i think the only reason you notice it so much on a website like this, is that you are actively looking at pictures of individuals, instead of seeing them as a giant mass that happens to work in the same building as you. the vast majority of people in the world are not skinny, model-esque looking women and men; real american women are, on average, 4 inches shorter than the average model, and over 40 pounds+ lighter. ex. a model can be 5'10, and weigh 145 ibs. an average woman can be 5'2 and 155 ibs. add in that weight is distrubuted differently with the heights, and you have one very skinny, tall model..and one short, chubby woman. maybe the people that you see as being "chubby" are actually "average"? we consider models to be the epidemy of beauty and sex appeal, but as i just said, most of them are actually UNDERWEIGHT for their height, freakishly tall, and have little to no curves to speak of. to compare the average person to their standards is like asking a pug to look and act like a grey hound. its never going to happen, and youre just going to have to accept the reality of what REAL people look like.
