AAkasha -> verifiedbdsm? BDSM according to *whom*? (7/4/2005 9:21:17 AM)

http://www.verifiedbdsm.com

What do people think of this?
If this catches on as an online thing to do, I think it's ridiculous. How hard is it to learn BDSM lingo to take a "test"? What if you don't like to go to scene parties, does that mean you aren't legitimate? And what "peer" is going to interview and decide whether or not the person is sincere?

Anyone can "fake" being into BDSM. I'd question those that sign up for this service and are so eager to prove how "real" they are -- vs. those who simply aren't illusive and can have an in-depth conversation about their desires and how they learned of them and expressed them.

*tongue in cheek*
Well everyone knows the REAL way to verify yourself is getting a registered slave number.

anthrosub -> RE: verifiedbdsm? BDSM according to *whom*? (7/4/2005 9:41:47 AM)

It looks like someone has discovered yet another market niche to make money. The services they offer are all something the interested party would have to do on their own (and would eventually anyway). It's like they're saying, "Let us do the legwork for you."

Personally, I would not hand over the details of my life they profess to investigate to an online service.

What a joke! It will be fun to see how many sign up and try to flash their 'certification'.

Actually, I kinda like the slave registration number thing, though. It's cool, but I sure wouldn't consider it any kind of credential...just kind of a fun, goof-type thing.

There have been quite a few thread's well at least 2 that I know of by the owner of the site itself. Asking for advice...etc.

Personally myself, and a few of the larger groups around the nation well 6 or so various board members came to the conclusion that if you are paying for a service it is completely worthless.
A lot of predators are going to hide behind the site. It takes little to nothing to become verified and even if you are verified it means nothing other than the reputation of the person who verified you. Did that make sense?

Anyway, I personally see it as a money making venture. I don't see it having to do with anything related to the lifestyle other than it has BDSM in the title. It is merely a way to lure innocent newbies in for the kill.

O yes Master..and what amount of money must i offer? And what sexual acts must i perform? And shall i thereafter stand on the corner of 5th and Vine, offering such services until i am "trained"? And will my certificate have a nice shiny seal? Please send details immediately..this submissive is most anxious to earn the respect of the BDSM community with her certificate.

Will f**k for certificate, LOL.

I do know that verified BDSM has been discussed on the cm board before, but I cannot find the links unfortunately.

I am aware that it was started by TallDarkandWitty, and that a handful of 'regular' posters from CM moderate the site.

From a personal point of view, I don't agree with the site. That said, their is one person whom I respect totally and without question, whom was involved in the site and I have no reason to disregard the site, other than the fact that I do not think it is faultless and could send out a signal of security that doesn't exist. The idea is fantastic in essence, but, in reality, I don't believe it can work. But I still admire the people for taking the step to at least try.

What I can't understand is what exactly is being verified. There are plenty of people who do not play publicly, nor are they involved in any lifestyle groups. Does this mean they aren't "real"? What's wrong with the old fashioned way of getting to know someone? I would certainly rather trust my own judgment rather than that of someone else, although I do realize that some people may not feel they have a great track record when it comes to people they become involved with.

I have to say that I was suprised to see at least one person's name associated with the site. I have mixed feelings about the whole idea.

Girl, you rock!
While I love having learned about this lifestyle so that I don't feel so alone in my head, sometimes it's a little disconcerting to read that one would need to be accepted by and approved of by a group to feel like one belonged, or was authentic... Fitting in? What if one doesn't do it the way the joneses do it?? M
