Not surprising coming from people who are used to appeasing evil.

You have to laugh at these sort of threads that get believers in a knicker twist as they uncover the spite and vitriol of their beliefs and their god.

It is more ridiculous than my paradoxical thought. Thank god I'm an atheist.

Hmmmm

Now at the moment for the nutter brigade we are infidels who will burn in hell once theyve killed us.

If we start using Allah for God then they'll see us as blasphemers and possibly heretics too.

I fail to see how our prospects will have been improved.

It's funny. Most Muslims refer to the Eternel as 'God', not as Allah. So that Catholic Bishop in Amsterdam was either: 1. completely ignorant or 2. deliberately creating a controversy... or 3. he's an imbecile.

We all know who does his PR.

This is a lousy idea as it represents capitulation. Capitulating to an aggressor only emboldens them to demand more. Appeasement is a losing strategy when faced with aggression. Either ignore and remove yourself from the aggression, try to talk with the aggressor, or be aggressive back.

I see. Politically correct religion. Well then, lets ask the Unitarians to decided what to call god!

I agree with 2. I also see it as an attack by this bishop on christianity. This bishop is evil.

Oh, and his seat is not Amsterdam, but Breda.

I'm glad that the religious can start getting along.  It's a good thing if Christians and Muslums can find some more common ground, particularly in naming "God" the same thing ("Allah").

One thing I wonder about giving "God" a proper name, though.. in this era when the religious are becoming spirtual, and the spirtual are becoming athiest.. it seems that those who cling to religion/religious-spirtuality may start to bring the newly-named (and now more place-able) entity, "Allah", down to more dietistic levels, rationalizing the contradictions of omnipotence and omniscense with the previous "God" to more of a higher life-form, a diety "Allah".  Perhaps this diety "Allah" may even be misrepresented in a future greater life-form encountered, such as the manifestations of a powerful AI or encountering [an/] alien entit[y/ies].

In any case, forecasting aside, good for the religious.

"God is not great: how religion poisons everything" - Christopher Hitchens.

Religion takes far, far too much place in today's world. Fuck the bishops and the ayatollahs. They're given more airspace than they deserve.

Why can't they just stay in their place? Bloody hysterics, the lot of them .

If someone actually believes in "God", they should truly devote every moment to "Him".  It should be the core of their life- as immorality in bliss would be the greatest prize of all.  They should save as many "souls" as possible and adhere to the teachings of their religion as flawlessly as possible.

So, really, if anyone actually believed in God, they'd not let anyone on Earth stop them from their holy duties.  This is rarely the case.  Those who make such a mess are the true believers.  They're also good examples of how disruptive such superstitious beliefs can be.

Islam is a faith followed by 1/5 of the world's people.
I copied the above from a Google search of the word "Islam".....so yes I think it is only correct that the other 4/5's of the world's population bow down and kiss the ground that the Muslems walk on and kiss their ass so as not to offend them........but if we do, then not only would God now be called Allah, but also Jesus would now have to be called Muhammed, not to mention doing away with all of the deciples of Jesus.  I do not attend a church, I do however believe, and I have a real problem with giving in to ANY religion that tells it's followers to kill any and all "non-believers" of that religion, oh yes, and that includes athiest/agnostics, only they of course would be stoned in the belief that the act would let them come to know the truth of Islam and the love of Allah.

Religion is man-made.

Edited to add:

These "Muslim" threads are a joy to behold.

Top of page 1: thinly veiled attempt at debate.

Top of page 2: muslims are evil.

Top of page 3: we're all going to die unless we kill the muslims.

Same old eh.

I dunno~  I have a hard time taking a religion seriously, who dictates that the faithful raise their ass to their god 5 times a day as a prayer.

Yeah, seems we're not moving forward from the bigotry underpinning genocide......the threads relating to the holocaust, nuclear bombs, Iraq.......lessons gone begging.

It's not a "phobia", when they really ARE out to kill you!
Please ask Sweden how "peaceful" their new Moslem "guests" are:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Moslems+rob+Sweden
We have Mexicans AND Moslems to bother us, the rest of the world "just" has to worry about that crazy cult...

I don't think most Muslim's are out to "kill" anybody.  Are there some extremists among them that want to or feel that it's their religious duty to do so?  Yes.  Just like in any religion, race, or sect.  It's been that way throughout all of history and not likely to change anytime soon.

As for calling God "Allah', no idea if God would much care....but appeasment seldom works...and I really don't see it doing any good from an  interfaith prespective.  Would likely just rile up the conservative Christians and upset the Islamic Fundamentalists...
