Never a war, but i do want to keep her protected from some harm. i know there is a diffrence from a responsable young adult being out, and one who is only out to cause trouble. That and being a mother of a girl, who is already very beautiful, i can only imagine who would take advantage of her when no one else is looking.

and in the end...hes 16, your adults, if things really do get out of hand and the kid plays his cards right you really think your gonna come out of the stuation clean?

cmon!

He does soemthing to me well then I know people and I'm gonna do a shitload of stuff back to him.

Smart....real smart.

Well yes!  For instance I knew a guy who had this very large smart ass punk of a 17 yo who used to live next door to him about 16 years ago.
And he had a very good friend who works in the metal recycling business.
The little punk next door got mad because he informed his folks about some activities he was involved in
I know two things for a fact;
1. my friend saw him key his 71 Chevelle.
2. They never did find the punks car.

so exactly where was the whole good in informing the kid's parents about stuff? From what I see it looks like it just caused a whole load of drama.

Well, as a parent, i'd WANT to know...that doesn't mean, however, that my daughter is going to know HOW i know, y'know?

Mom always had "eyes in the back of her head"...we just never knew who's eyes they were....

We'll know, regardless.

My bet is that kid's parents just don't give a fuck.. otherwise he'd be safely tucked into bed at 3am.

Next time just call the cops.  :-D

oh i gave a fuck and my kid still snuck out. i was told, i waited for her to sneak out followed her and busted her myself. so... maybe a note no mention of date or exact time. unless you know the parents well.
male or female there are nuts out there. i would like to know if my teen is missing as soon as possible. not get up next day and not know how long they've been gone.
my reputation is such no teenager would dare fuck with me or whats mine. so i wouldnt worry about retaliation. but thats just me i'm still badass. (and have friends in very very low places)

If you saw him doing something illegal I would tell.  Otherwise, it's none of your business.

There is no scarier feeling for a 16 year old than coming home at 4am, quietly walking to your window (which you left ever so slightly open) only to find it shut and locked and your Dad staring at you from the other side of the window!!

That being said, being a sneaky kid makes for an extremely vigilant parent.

As to the OP's question,  I don't know what I'd do.  I think it would depend on the relationship (if any) I had with the kid or the family.

Play dumb, but be crafty. Strike up a conversation with the parents, then casually mention that you apologize for almost running over the boy as you returned home. The lighting was poor, and you didn't expect anyone to be standing out there then. The parents can pursue it with him if they wish, and he will only think you are a clueless dork.

Perfect example of how to outsmart a 16yo that thinks he is smarter than the grownups. No one mentioned the HOW to advise the parents, which would have been a whole other topic. Good lord you don't just walk up to the door and ask for mum or dad and tell them in plain view or earshot of the child!

Perhaps when Rummy grows up he will understand these things.

These days, one can never tell how parents are going to react when someone mentions a potential problem regarding their offspring.  That said, do what you feel is the right thing.  If that is ratting the kid out (I would), do it in a sneaky manner as suggested by nyrisa and definitely out of the kid's earshot.

It takes a village to raise an UM.
