OK, let's assume, for the sake of argument, that the gods of Olympus really were aliens. What happened during the long dry spell between ancient Greece and the 1950's? Where did the aliens go?

And which ancient gods were aliens, and which merely human constructions? Were the Hindu gods aliens too? The Chinese gods? The Norse gods? The Mesoamerican gods?

Actually there have been many ideas floating around for a long time about ancient history. Atlantis, advanced civilizations, the Pyramids, Stonehenge, Mythology. One of the original Star Trek episodes had a storyline that the Gods and Goddesses of Mount Olympus were actually beings with advanced powers from another solar system. I don't think it is that far fetched, and I find it all kind of fascinating.

LAM! Ya, know I don't have to analyze this to death. I think it is fun to think about some things and wonder if maybe there is a grain of truth in the supposition. It makes life interesting and gets Me to thinking about a different perspective.
Most good fiction is based upon supposition. What if this happened? Or what if such and such was behind this historical fact? It makes for a good read. I don't take everything I read as absolute authority, but it can be interesting. I was in school for a long time. And some of what I learned was probably not true at all. It takes growth and maturity and the ability to stretch your mind to consider other possibilities.
I wouldn't have very much fun if I had to have absolute proof and answers to everything little thing. Some things are based on fact, some things are based on emotion, and some people take emotion and turn it into fact. One has to be able to see that, and make their own decisions. I am a person who would be a nervous wreck if I had to analyze everything to death, and find the "proof"..
I'm a pretty logical person, but My entire life and all of My thought processes are not based upon absolute fact. I didn't offer this as fact. I just said it was a fascinating idea and, perhaps, some food for thought. I will leave the "proof positive" up to those who feel it is necessary for their personal comfort level. I am already comfortable.

I agree with you that it's fun to suppose Ra may have been an alien. And it made for an entertaining movie. But the question was why aliens haven't been observed before the twentieth century, and if your response is that maybe Ra was an alien, I have to wonder what happened to all the aliens between Ra and the twentieth century.

As I said, I can't rule out the possibility of alien contact because I can't disprove it. But the historical circumstances are suspicious, to say the least.

i think the scottish people were aliens. They are my ancestors and did not accomplish jackshit besides inventing plaid and golf, as well as a great liquor. The rest of Europe enjoyed the Renaissance and somehow the scottish people remained in huts made of some kind of moss and did not even bother inventing a distinct language. They just garbled everything going and added marbles to their mouths so that no one could understand a damned thing they said.

so, on the theory that aliens would lay low and try to fit in without drawing attention to themselves, i suggest the passed the time on the frigid, treeless Highlands.

P.S. Please do not write me back and tell me about bagpipes; i think they sound like monkeys playing a piano that's out of tune.

P.P.S. If you're part scottish and take offense, my apologies. It's just a damned shame, but not everyone can be italian.

P.P.P.S. If your funny bone is broken, my apologies.

i have had the hots for sean connery all my life DESPITE those mysoginist "007" movies; but his last movie -- cannot recall the name -- was too much. he has become too wrinkly and gross. So has jack nicholson, whom i also lusted after; *sigh*.

i would not eat haggis if i were starving to death; does no one know what the f**k it is? www.smart.net/~tak/haggis.html

Lordy.

dark angel; your friend has an impoverished set of priorieties. Ideally, a man's priorities would be: be a good father; love my woman any way i can; be a good citizen to my community; love my woman, love my woman, love my woman. LOL.
