Yup!
And I keep sending e-mails to my senators and congressman telling them to get us out of "Nafta."
The problem currently is that we have a govt that just doesn't LISTEN to The People.
They listen to the Lobbyists on "K" street!

You are right we no longer live in a country of the people for the people. If we the people have no say in such a big change in America, we are no longer free. I honestly see an American revolt on the horizon.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: NAFTA Superhighway (8/17/2007 8:43:50 PM)

The NAFTA superhighway proposal is not a new idea.  The idea of connecting the entire Western Hemisphere by rail or highways has been around since the mid-19th Century.  It would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, and it is not going to happen.  They tried building a Pan-American highway that in theory would have stretched from Nome, Alaska to the southern tip of South America.  Now there is a system of roads that can be taken to drive from Alaska to Panama.  From Panama you can attempt to make the treachorous journey into South America, but it isn't a highway by any means.  The idea of connecting this higway with a bridge or tunnel across the Bering Strait to Russia has been talked about for 50 years.  In theory, it would make overland travel and commerce between Asia, the Americas, and Europe possible.  However, it is way too expensive.  It's certainly a interesting idea in theory, but not likely to happen in our lifetimes.

I don't believe the idea of a NAFTA superhighway is going to fare any better.  The Teamsters are the ones that are the most upset by this idea.  They make a valid claim that Mexican truckers would flood the roads of the U.S., and that they would not be under the same scrutiny or restrictions as American truckers if such a road were constructed.  However, the fact is that it is already possible for Mexican truckers to come across the border.  A new superhighway would make transport easier, but it would change very little.  Like I said; I understand the argument, but I am not all that concerned with it.  We simply don't have the money to construct what is being proposed.  We can't even maintain the roads and bridges we have now.

WASHINGTON – A powerful think tank chaired by former Sen. Sam Nunn and guided by trustees including Richard Armitage, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Harold Brown, William Cohen and Henry Kissinger, is in the final stages of preparing a report to the White House and U.S. Congress on the benefits of integrating the U.S., Mexico and Canada into one political, economic and security bloc.

The final report, published in English, Spanish and French, is scheduled for submission to all three governments by Sept. 30, according to the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

CSIS boasts of playing a large role in the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1994 – a treaty that set in motion a political movement many believe resembles the early stages of the European Community on its way to becoming the European Union.

NORTH AMERICAN FUTURE 2025 PROJECT

Director, Mexico Project
Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)

Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) North American Future 2025 Project

SUMMARY

Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) North American Future 2025 Project

namely, labor mobility, energy, the environment, security, competitiveness, and border
infrastructure and logistics.

The final deliverable will be a report on options and policy recommendations on the future of North American integration that will be presented in September 2007 to the executive and legislative branches of the three governments of North America. The report will be produced in the three official languages—English, Spanish, and French—as part of an effective dissemination strategy aimed at maximizing the policy impact of the report.

ROUNDTABLE I: METHODOLOGY OF GLOBAL AND NORTH AMERICAN PROJECTIONS

The CSIS North America Project will convene pertinent government officials from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, along with selected nongovernment experts knowledgeable of current global and North American trends and experienced in projecting scenarios. This first roundtable would be akin to a methodology session, in which a select group of project participants will review existing data and make an assessment of current standpoints in key sectors and establish baseline scenarios for each of the six roundtables to follow. The first half of this roundtable will be dedicated to determining where North America and other global regions currently stand in key sectors, such as trade, demographics, infrastructure, natural resources (that is, energy and water), and science and technology. Examining current regional and global data will provide a context for the projection scenarios. The second half of this roundtable will assess existing projection studies and establish a baseline scenario from which to initiate the discussion and make appropriate adjustments prior to delving into the policy recommendations that will constitute part of the discussion at each of the six subsequent roundtables.

ROUNDTABLE II: THE FUTURE OF NORTH AMERICAN LABOR MOBILITY

Much of the contemporary literature on globalization principally focuses on the

"North American Future 2025 Project."

yup thats just fucking hwarious!  and if ya wook at cwaosseyed dars two of wm huk wuk...

well the only person to really talk about it was lou dobbs and the rest of the media is totally silent.

Whats his face on cnbc market news about shit a turkey when he found out.  (lot of traders watch that)

Other than that the media as usual has been fucking silent because there is no need to integrate and we will lose our sovereignity and the constitution if we do.  unless you folks in canadia and mexico want to be the 51's and 52nd states of the us.  yeh right!

pahunkboy -> RE: NAFTA Superhighway (8/18/2007 6:29:49 AM)

pahunkboy -> RE: NAFTA Superhighway (8/18/2007 6:54:14 AM)

one item ild guess is since we will need 10 large ports over 10 yrs- they will simply put them in MX- where NIMBY forces areent there.  then truck it on up.   cammels and buggies - or go carts- however it gets here. we gots to have our cheap trinckets form china!  lol

EbonyFtshGoddess -> RE: NAFTA Superhighway (8/18/2007 11:29:41 AM)

nafta superhighway is a DIRECT result of the north american union. it's just another brick in that wall.

not trying to derail your thread, but it is really a direct result of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America  thread i brought up.

that highway is purely there to circumvent the port states. they want to push goods through  mexico without having to pay the long shoremen in california and any other port  state in the union. or pay the long horemen of those port states. longshoremen have a UNION and they are paid high wages. why pay for those high wages when you can truck things from cheaper source.. ie mexico up through the US to canada?

i didn't bring the NAFTA highway up on my thread because we apparently already had enough to chew on with that thread.

thank god texas is voicing dissention because that highway is going right through many of their homes. and ron paul is the ONLY one i see voicing dissention other than the ones in texas facing eminent domain.

no one likes when eminent domain is pulled on them.

it truly does change the way we move goods, which some may view as all ok. those changes redirect and  hurt union US  port jobs, it also opens up our borders to lord knows what and we're selling that access to the highest bidder. what is in place to protect our borders?

China  benefitts much from this highway and i feel they have no good will towards the US-we owe them SO much money right now. it's not only allowing allow Mex, Can, and the US to trade goods.. no, it opens us up to China to access to the superhighway as well as cutting  yet MORE jobs- this time to port working longshoremen..

they don't have to deliver goods to costly Californian ports, naah, they can go through mexico and truck it up through Mexico, the U.S.. upwards to Canada then branch out east and west across Canada.

they can just simply deliver goods via ship to the tip of mexico and people can truck it on up.

that is yet AGAIN taking jobs away from americans. and we wonder why our economy sucks ass?

can we say outsourcing?

how much more outsourcing can we take before our dollar takes a bigger dump on the world market?
