Last night I was in pain for over six hours- yes, that long..I have had this same pain and noone can figure out what it is. It is slightly below my breasts- it's not a sharp pain but like a heavy pain as if someone is sitting on my stomach... it doesn't get stronger- it stays a steady pain, lessens then comes back..then goes away as quickly as it came...I can barely eat as of lately that is why I lost alot of weight..I begin to eat and I feel bloated and can't finish a meal anymore...any ideas? No fever, no diarrhea or vomiting..I get constipated alot...is it possible that I am eating too many spicy foods or the wrong foods and can constipation and gas last that long?? I couldn't sleep at all last night...I had my gall bladder checked and there was nothing they could see..I am waiting for my insurance cards to come in the mail then I am making a doctor appointment...no back pain, headaches, nothing..just that full, bloated pressure...?

There are many things which could be causing your problem.  Irritable Bowel Syndrome sounds like a distinct possibility.  There is medication for the type that causes constipation.  Ask your doctor when you see him about IBS.  It's possible that you could have H. Pylori, a bacterial infection in your stomach that causes ulcers.  You should also be tested for that, which could explain the pain but not the constipation.  There is also the possibility that your bowels may be slightly impacted.  A simple enema may do you good, but only under the advisement of a physician.

The possibilities are endless and the few I've listed are the tip of the iceberg.  Only your healthcare provider can actually find the source of your problems.  See your physician as soon as possible.

What feastie said. The symptoms are also similar to what someone I know went through prior to being diagnosed with Crohns. That person put off going to the doctor and had to have two feet of large intestine removed and spent two weeks in the hospital. Do not wait.

Krissi, I would call the insurance company, explain the situation, and tell them you need to see a Dr now. They can call the Dr's office  (or vice versa) to make sure the insurance stuff is all in place even though you don't physically have the cards yet. I've had to do this in the past for my lil one, and yes, it's a pain in the butt, but you need to take care of you. Good luck..

I agree that it does sound bowel/intestinal and I wouldn't mess with it.  Have you recently had a colonoscopy?  Diverticulitis can be extremely painful.

I have never had a colonoscopy- not yet anyhow. I will go to the hospital today, atleast they have to treat me..I did go to the bathroom this morning, normal- no blood, no pain...so that confuses me more...maybe i was so constipated that caused pain..i will wait and see what the doc says, thanks everyone.

If you are noticing this after certain foods, it may be diverticulitis.  It's something to consider.

well, last night I ate way too much barbecue spicy chips and now i will NEVER eat them again! It had to be the chips if anything because all I ate that day was a bran muffin in the morning which i tolerate well-probably the fiber that I need and had some chicken (baked) and veggies...must have been the spicy food- i am giving it up completely now and a friend suggested I eat that yogurt for digestion which i am buying today.

i agree with everyone else.....go get it checked out.  I suffer from IBS, spastic colon, etc.  The symptoms you describe could also be gastritis.  In the mean time if you can't see a doctor stay away from greasy, spicy foods and especially dairy products.  Also, eat 6 for 7 tiny meals a day because symptoms tend to get worse with an empty stomach, even if it's just a few crackers and some mashed potatoes........get well and stay safe!

Thankyou. I don't eat much greasy foods but i tend to lean towards the hot sauce..I wonder how Mexicans and Indians can eat such hot foods without any complications. I am buying that yogurt today and some water crackers...a little dairy doesn't bother me but too much does make me full of gas..blah.

We are all different. I can eat spicy three meals a day and nothing but too much grease, dairy or processed food and I am bloated and miserable as hell.

What I was wondering is, if they find nothing wrong with me..can certain foods cause you to be miserable and bloated for hours upon hours??? I have had so many ultrasounds and blood work done..and nothing seems to be wrong with me..maybe the meds I am on..I am on synthroid for my underactive thryoid, Effexor XR 150mg once a day for my depression and Meformin 500mg once a day for my diabetes.

"Diverticulitis can be extremely painful" ...but it almost always includes diarrahea; sudden onset, violent, horriable, nasty, cramping, explosive diarrahea.

I'd stay away from nuts and seeds and eat only bland food, till you can see a doctor.

When was the last time you had a cervical smear? I know it seems unrelated, but ovarian cell irregularities can provoque symptoms of intestinal and digestive disorders. Make sure you're up to date.

And yes, certain foods most definately can cause problems. I would suggest keeping a food diary and note when you have problems. Some food allergies create bloating and so forth. Also, I have noticed that for myself, some combinations of foods are bad such as meat and simple carbs like my yummy homemade beef and noodles. I love them but omg I am miserable until they leave me. Baked goods are also purely evil.

I was suppose to go in July and will be going soon- I have had many abnormal pap smear tests- very mildly abnormal. I have to get them done every six months.

celiac disease can also cause bloating and pain, it's a problem with gluten absorption.

Greetings Krissi,

You said you have had ultrasounds and since I don't know on what, please allow me to suggest
that if you haven't already, ask the doctor to do one on your pancreas and liver.

Good luck and hope you soon feel better,
ryssa

It actually sounds a lot like Crohn's disease.  My ex-mother-in-law has recently been diagnosed with it.  This is nothing to mess around with.  A man down the street lost his wife to it a couple of years ago.  Don't wait for the cards, just go and deal with the financial end of things later.
