Call me weird, but I cried on 2001: A Space Odyssey, the movie and the book. I wished I was in David Bowman's shoes...

here is a list of movies that make me cry everytime I watch them and a reason. Well we all know why for steel magnolias.  Forest Gump I start crying at several points ones of them is when he wakes up one morning and his Jenny is gone.  Madea's family reunion the kitchen table scene were one of the actresses is talking about her husband "that when they are together the two of them become one" that always reminds me of my honey Gator we always kiss and hug at that part.  This one is going to come out of left field but for me Brokeback Mountain when he goes to his friends parents house and finds the blood stained shirt that he had saved all those years.  That part brings back so many memorys for me.

I was so emotionaly spent after seeing Schindler's List... screw eating the popcorn... i was too busy blowing my nose!  The Notebook made me sob.  There were a few times during the movie that I knew what was going to happen next, and I'd start crying at just the thought of it, and when it actually happend.... well yea!!!!!  I blubbered like a fool!  Oh, and there's And the band played on &  Philadelphia, both were very powerful.

SusanofO -> RE: Movies That Made You Cry (8/25/2007 2:43:49 AM)

"Awakenings" with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams. Could a movie make me cry more than this? I doubt it.

"The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis - I just lose it when Goldblum begs Davis not to abort his baby.

"Phantom of the Opera" (any well done play or movie version) - I feel so sorry for the Phantom, I want to adopt him right away (unless of course he has a whip. Then I'd just want him to _uck me .)

"It Could Happen To You" with Nicholas Cage and Bridget Fonda - Lottery winner loses money but gets his girl.True love at its sweet finest. So what if it's "corny"?

"Wuthering Heights" (1971 version starring Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff) - You can just feel the transcendent romance in this film! Moving, memorable and very much worth seeing. How could anyone not find Timothy Dalton sexy and irresistible as Heathcliff?

"To Kill A Mockingbird" (1963 version starring Gregory Peck) - Atticus Finch is the father everyone should have been lucky enough to have. If you haven't ever seen it, you are truly missing out.

"Charly" (starring Cliff Robertson and Claire Bloom) - Tragic oldie about a retarded man whose IQ is increased to astronomical heights, via advanced science, only to have the experiment fail, slowly leaving him retarded once more. Movie idea was from the book: "Flowers For Algernon

"Marty" (starring Ernest Borgnine) - Oldie about a very lonely, unattractive bachelor who finally finds love. Academy Award winner.

"The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter" (starring Alan Arkin) - a very memorable tear-jerker. Well worth seeing.

"Forrest Gump" and Philadelphia" (starring Tom Hanks) - Do these really need an explanation?

"Scrooge" (film version of  Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol") - Best film version I've ever seen of the book - ever.

"Glory" - A Civil war movie about a regiment of black Union soldiers fighting discrimination with dignity, with a haunting musical score, starring Matthew Broderick, as their Abolitionist leader.

"Cold Mountain" - A woman finds true love, then pines for him (and he for her) while he is off fighting the Civil war. He comes home, to her, but and she loses him again very soon. Bring your hankie. Haunting musical score. Starring Nicole Kidman.

"Pay It Forward" - starring Helen Hunt - a very effective tear-jerker that will make you think.

"American Beauty" - won an Academy Award for its portrayal of lonley lives in materially advantaged U.S. suburbia

All of these films are guaranteed to make me weep buckets.

- Susan

What a buncha pussies you all are, crying at movies !  I don't cry at movies, but if I did, it would have to be The Piano when she get's her fingers chopped off, that left me sobbing, I mean umm ...yeah, I'm a pussy too.

I can't believe I'm going to admit this, here but, there was a movie that seemed like a nice, happy story and I wanted to see it, when it first came out (I rarely go to the theatre, anymore).

I didn't get to see it and I, purposely, avoided finding out anything about the movie.

I finally bought it, on Disc, about 2 years ago. It is the only disc I own that I have only watched once. I had such a violent (crying) reaction.

That movie is: "Pay It Forward"

Peace and comfort,

Michael

i sobbed for that one........and turner and hooch gets me every time too

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Movies That Made You Cry (8/25/2007 11:39:08 PM)

the one movie that made me cry is "The Passion Of Christ"...I cried because of the money I through away on that awful movie. I'm ashamed to admit that I threw money away on that, when there were other, better movies showing at that same theater.

MissMagnolia -> RE: Movies That Made You Cry (8/26/2007 12:01:33 AM)

ET, which is weird as I just watched it and then saw this thread scrolling). I can't believe no one cries at ET. What is wrong with you people?

Titanic made me cry buckets the first time I saw it.

Edward Scissorhands was a complete embarrassment as I was afraid to leave the cinema. Not only tears, but the snot coming out of my nose too. Of course I had no tissues.

michaelOfGeorgia -> RE: Movies That Made You Cry (8/26/2007 12:04:54 AM)

ET was good, Titanic was way too long and boring and Edward Scissorhands was funny.

Is there any movie that made you absolutely cry like a baby? Any movie that you learned alot about yourself from? Well, "Harold And Maude" absolutely made me cry- I learned that true love comes from within- not about age, physical looks or money...every time I watch this movie I cry.[:(]

Terminator 2: it was so shit, depression took hold of me at the thought of wasting 2 and a half hours of my life, so I had a little cry before picking myself up, dusting myself down and getting back on the horse.

What a great book. English Literature at school (11-15 years) was amazing....we read a few American texts such as the one above, Of Mice and Men, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (possibly South African rather than American), Lord of the Flies, The Heart of Darkness.......excellent books all of them. 'Problem was, at college (16-18 years) it was all Chaucer and Shakespeare: 'boring as batshit.

To Kill a Mockingbird remains one of my favourite books, as does Of Mice and Men.

fairerthanshe -> RE: Movies That Made You Cry (8/26/2007 7:41:35 AM)

Rocky still makes me cry every time I see it.  To Kill a Mockingbird does as well.  Now, Voyager with Bette Davis, Green Card, Notting Hill all are good for a long sob session.

well wishes ~ fairer
