It's funny how people get so worked-up over the word dominate, a verb, being used as a noun but, never seem to be bothered by the word submissive, an adjective, being used as a noun.

i guess some rules of grammar are okay to break but, not others.

OH, and if anyone cares, the first phase of government in ancient Rome was "The Principate."  See, now I've made you forget something important :).

Greetings Ph0enixF1re,

Interesting thread[:)]
"The Principate"....i like that term. A very dominant word!

sares -> RE: "I am dominate." (8/23/2007 7:40:47 PM)

It's actually okay to use "dominant" and "submissive" as nouns because "person" is implied following the adjective in each of these instances, as in "land of the free and home of the brave."

xoxi -> RE: "I am dominate." (8/23/2007 8:31:23 PM)

I've actually referred to myself as a 'submittive' but then again I was being facetious :P

I'm tempted to get one of the "I am a Dominate" guy's phone numbers, so I can call him and annoy him by pronouncing 'Dominate' the Latin way.  I believe it would be doh-mee-na-tay.  Just hearing him pause and then sputter "what the f*** are you talking about you f***ing retard" would be priceless.

Well, while we're correcting grammer, dominant is an adjective. EG: I am dominant, or I am a dominant (person).
OK, English class is over. As for the common instance of improper usage, it does tend to reflect upon the percieved intelligence of the "Dominate".

Haha thanks for the extra little English lesson. For some reason i have never been able to say someone is a Dominant because it just doesn't sound right. I've always shortened it to Dom because to me that abbreviation has taken on a meaning of it's own and simply sounds more correct then "a Dominant". What's funny is that "a submissive" doesn't sound wrong to me though. Oh well. I don't really remember grammer rules i generally just know something seems wrong but couldn't tell ya why. so sad.

MaDomAura -> RE: "I am dominate." (8/23/2007 9:59:36 PM)

On the PPP (personal pet peeve) front. I can't get past someone saying they liked my "add" which should be ad. I assume they mean my profile. At that point my main interest becomes more proof reading. Can't judge a book by it's cover but... I can and will judge the words on the page!

Gods,

For one, it is spelled Grammar.

Second,

The man was a dominate?
The female hyenna was the dominate?

If you add 'figure, species, etc' to those sentences, with further notations,it would be correct.

All is a useless fact, if spell incorrectly. Don't blame language barriers either, if you have a language barrier you wouldn't make useless facts about a language that isn't your primary.

Otherwise, what is your point besides making incorrect English statements.

large g for "Gods" in that instance, because its in the begining area of a statement.  otherwise, you're entirely correct, god is a job description, not a name.

kitten, who snarks about that on most occasions.....

I had really wanted to start into this discussion on the merit of the discussion itself. But then I am reading a thread that is trying to use the coincidence of the existence of a Roman epoch, which happens to have the same spelling as the word which all too many dominant individuals are too plain dumb to properly spell, as the excuse for the common improper spelling.

But when reading through the very content of the informative (or was that excusatory?) thread I stumble across "grammer", "Ceasar", "Wickpedia", "percieved", and "definately"...which is when I figured "why the fornicate even bother" and leaned back to grab some of the leftover popcorn from the "nasty doms" thread.

What the heck do I know anyway? After all, English was only my third language...

Exactly, which is why it puzzles me and amuses me when i see how some people get so upset about the incorrect use of "dominate."

It's interesting that you will see people identify themselves as submissives but nobody writes in and says "I am a submit"

U WILL SUBMITE 2 ME.  B CAUZE U R A SUBMIT AND I AM A DOMINATE.  I AM JOB.  ALL OF YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US.
